I have an AMD 1.4GHz T-Bird (unlocked), but when I go into my BIOS and change the multiplier it doesnt work.

I mean, it "shows" that it changes, but when I check my SiSoft and other proggies the multiplier shows up as 10.5 (default), anlthough I had set it to 12...?

Anyone know why this is happening?

I am using and ASUS A7V266 - E.

Have ya tried any other mults? To be honest, it sounds as though is is not unlocked or not properly done so it may be partially unlocked.

did you unlock it or did you get it unlocked

When I bought it, it came unlocked......I thought all t-Birds 1.4GHZ were unlocked?

Well, I've got a 1.4 AYHJA-Y that I had to unlock. So, I think I'd pull that chip and have a looksee.

OK, will it be written right on the core?

The 200FSB versions of the CPUs almost all of 'em come locked so if u have 1 of those u will have to unlock it! Good luck in the NEW YEAR 2002!!!

The mobo you have currently does not work even if your chip comes unlocked. I heard with the mobo you have even the new MP chips wont work when trying to change the multiplyer.
your best bet is to return the mobo and get the abit kr7a because i gurrantee if you took that chip and put it in a cheap shuttle board it would work fine when changing the multiplyer.

That's a "C", so it is 133 fsb. I thought they were all unlocked as well...HMMM. Here is a little cheat-sheet for those codes on the core:

Is this true? Where did you read about his?

Can I just use the manual dip switches?

I read on a different fourm that the same guy had your mobo and a 1800MP chip which comes unlocked and he could not change the multiplyer in the bios. Its the mobo

Damn.

This sucks.

Is there anyhting that I can do to fix it? Other than returning it?

Not that i am aware of but there might be a new bios out soon that might fix that problem. But if i were you and you can return the board i would. The kr7a is the fastest most overclocking board there is and i would buy that one

I myself just bought one and people are getting 150fsb-200fsb with good ram . the board you have might of gotten good reviews and is faster at default fsb speeds but from what i heard the asus board you have comes overclocked at default weres the abit dosnt. I also heard once you overclock the asus and the abit for some reason the asus board slows down and the abit comes out on top. someone here could probbly explain it better if they read this message. But if i were you go to amdmb.com and go to the fourms and you will see a place just for asus and abit boards. read all the comments and you might find out how to fix it or you might learn that the abit kr7a is a better board.
the only issues im aware of that the kr7a has is the raid which via has some issues and slow performance, but i think it will be fixed within a few months.

found this on the amdmb fourms

read the post called . . .
List ALL Your A7V266 or (E) Issues And How You Fixed The Problem(s)

and a guy called Powerhouse posted this

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. The A7V266-E CPU multiplier for AthlonXP's is fully functional from the bios. However, you must change the jumper (Page 20 in the manual) from palamino to T-bird on the motherboard. From what I have read, this has no negative efects on performance of your XP CPU.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

According to the manuel if you set it to that the motherboard shouldnt function with a palmino inside it.
Anyway, i reciently unlocked my processor and placed it inside my PC. I tryed the multiplyers and it didnt work. So i took the Silver stuff off it and have left it ever since. I never tryed this way.

I thought i had stuff up the proceedure, or maybe i had done it right and i just didnt know i had to do this ?
Which is correct ?'

had to set my jumpers to Athlon to get the multipliers functioning. The only problem I have seen, is the bios identifies the cpu as 2000+, no matter what speed it is actually running at.

I was hoping Asus would fix this with a bos update, but I have had the board for 6 weeks now, and not a single bios update yet. (1004b)

I just wanted to let you know that you should check out amdmb.com and the fourms under abit message board and you will see that this board has no major issues what so ever except for raid and thats not even the boards problem but Via that makes kt266a. i would go with the abit kr7a and return that crap board or RMA it if you can. Abit is only on the 2nd bios since its release so you should see some major improvments to the kr7a bios in a few months.

....

Not with the ASUS.

Honestly, I Dont like ASUS, I Bought a ASUS A7A266, Glaciator Wont fit on it or anything, It's not at ALL A Good overclocking motherboard, And i hate the BIOS That they have.

They have a BIOS That my Gateway 750 p3 Has, And just computer's off the shelf have (Compusa, etc)

Best motherboards: EPOX 8KHA, EPOX 8KHA+ ABIT KG7 Raid ECS K7VTA3
