I would have gotten this, but then they announced the 780i FTW board, so I'll wait for that..

thats a typo most likely, i think the reference design is ddr3 only, altho we may see the usual non reference mobos from asus later with ddr2

The whole DDR3 only thing with the new boards put me right off, DDR2 is still best value for money, the way they push people to DDR3 by excluding DDR2 on the new boards makes me really annoyed.

for that reason I will stay with the 780i untill they bring DDR3/DDR2 variants out

Forcing DDR3 on people may seem outrageous, but it ensures that DDR3 prices will come down when you force demand. I'm not buying it now, but it will make price drops faster.

DDR3 prices really have to come down for nehalem.

well i see some nice ddr3 for the same price as i paid for ddr2 about a year ago. i dont see the problem here that you guys say. the only thing i really see is DDR2 stock piles need to be sold so prices are low... you spend what you can spend...

So is the 780i or 790i better for clocking?
I know the 680i really blows chunks...a freind of mine has one, and he can't get past 3g with an E6700 and OCZ mem

780i and 790i should oc the same, the only difference really being just ddr2 or ddr3.

dont think so

the 780i is the same NB

the 790i is new as far as I know

people been hitting 550 on dual cores and 450 with quads.... i dont see anyone doing that with a 680i....
