Hello there,
I am after getting 6 of this and putting them into Raid 10 for my new build ... However i cant figure out whats the different on this are! i searched in few sites and the specs are all the same ( NS being the expnsive one! ).
Could any one give me any heads up?
Thank you,
The NS is a server grade drive, rated for 1.2 million hours of continuous usage. The regular 11's don't have that.

nope they use the sameplatters same everthing... If that's the case, why would they have a different MTBF? I'd think there would be some cache differentiation at least......
I'd also be willing to bet that the armature is a bit heavier, as is typical in enterprise-class drives. All speculation aside, the NS series carry a 5-year warranty.

I have five in a RAID5 array and I'm happy with them. You might also want to consider the WD6400AAKS - 640GB in two platters, up to 120MB/sec transfer rate and 20c/gigabyte. Tough to beat.

Hi there,
Yes, thanks for mentioning that ... I was thinking about those drives too .. however there not from the 7200.11 series are their? I mean they have 16mb cache ... they have the same platters as this just in 500GB's 230GB been disabled from my underestanding .. right?
Which will i see a better peformance with, do you think?

Um, no, they are Western Digital drives. 7200.11 is a Seagate product family name.

Since they are made by different manufacturers they don't have the same platters. The ST3500320AS drives have two 250GB platters.

Hard to say, I expect both of those drives would give very similar performances.
