I am a bit comfused about my 8500. First, aren't LE supposed to have 4.0ns ram and a 250/250 core? Mine has 3.6ms ram and the place I bought it says it has a 275/275 core, just like the retail version, but it has an LE sticker on the back. Now for my questions:
1) How do I check to see if I has a retail or OEM BIOS?
2) How do I check to see what the core it really at?
3) If it has a OEM BIOS, how can I flash in a retail BIOS?
4) How do I overclock this badboy?

Thanks a lot. Also, about flashing in a retail BIOS, what kind of risks are involved and how can I revert to the original BIOS if I need to?

download powerstrip and install it. it will tell you what core and mem speeds are currently and allow you to o/c. if speeds are at 275/275 it's a retail bios and no need to flash. if they are 250/250 then it may be oem and flashing could possibly help but not much from what i've heard. it won't be able to add much to your maximum o/c anyway. at any rate you can only flash if you have an oem card with 3.6 ram.

Don't get me started :p

Just because its got 3.6ns ram and a 250/250 core/memory DOESN'T mean that you can flash it to retail speeds.

Like Julien suggested download Powerstrip (http://www.entechtaiwan.com/ps.htm) and try 275/275 while running Madonion.com 's 3dmark2001

If you can run 275/275 Artifact free, then and only then should you attempt to Flash your card.

Pinky was kind enough to host the Bios flash Here (http://www.aoafiles.com/)

From using powerstrip it appears that my core is running at 275/275 normally and I have 3.6, but my card has an LE sticker on the back. What does this mean?

Component Authority (componentauthority.com) . I think it was $180, probably about $195 with shipping.

uhh...I just got another one to sell on ebay and it has a 230/230 core, WTF? Even if it is an OEM aren't they at 250/250? Also, the ram says hynix 36 on it, does that mean it is 3.6ns? Thanks

Yah the 36 denotes 3.6ns DDR memory(most likely Hynix ram formaly known as Hyandai:p

OEM's come in many configurations:

230/230 3.6ns ram
230/230 4ns ram
230/250 3.6ns or 4ns ram
250/250 3.15vmem
250/250 3.5vmem Oem bios only
And both types 230 or 250 core may have a lowered voltage gpu resistor.

TO be honest with you I think you got lucky as many 230/230 versions ship with -4ns ram

Its possible to make your card a retail version since you have the right hardware components. Chances are your card has 2 resistors and just an OEM bios, that differs from the Retail 275/275

How good are you with electronics?
