Ok so here we are getting ready to COD4 when BAM! RROD! My brother is flipping and after 6 -10 RROD restarts we decide to google a fix. We came up with this:

What have we got to lose? So He goes and grabs 3 thick towels, proceeds to wrap it securely and powers the Xbox up. What happens you ask? Well we figured this much out..........Seeing as the added insulation would create massive amounts of heat, the Xbox, got scared and simply started as normal, lol. I'm really not sure why, or how, but we beat the RROD! I found it rather hilarious and figured I'd share. Hope some of you at least had a chuckle :D

That's the oldest trick in the book. ;)
Basically what it does is melts the motherboard a bit which temporarily sets things back in place. Doing that repeatedly will completely ruin your system and void your warranty.
Best to just send it in to Microsoft.

Well that's not an option as we bought it second hand, no warranty
Thing is it didn't even have time to get hot, it just started working.

Xbox fears the wrath of the mighty Bath Towel, it trembles in its presence.
I bet it only took a few secs to get hot enough.

Sure it's an option. Long as the date on the console is less than three years old, and if the console hasn't been registered, they should take it back no questions asked. Call them and see.

As said I am sorry to say but you have not beaten anything, you simply delayed it. I myself used that trick a few times but each time it worked for a shorter and shorter period till finally the trick worked no more.
Also as said Microsoft has extended the warranty to 3 years, so I am sure you can return it. For me I pretty much just told them my model number and within a few days I had a return box.

I still have no earthly idea why people think this is a good thing.
"Hey! Look! Making it so hot that it can physically move other parts to fix it could not possibly do harm to the silicon!"
Are we really *that* dumbed-down?
Because people want to play videogames a few more hours.
Sent it back to MS, if they whine, whine more.

I just don't understand how someone could play so long it would melt solder.
Oh, it could be the cheap, outsourced, mass produced chinese solder

IMO, I would not attempt to fix your Xbox. I would attempt to call MS and see if you can send the unit in for repair. If MS says no, I would try a few more times (you might get lucky). Anything past that and I would sell the unit for a loss on e-bay (not sure how much they fetch) and save up and buy either a PS3 or wait for the 60Gb Xbox 360.

It'll come back...... the towels are just a TEMPORARY fix.
