i was wondering if its difficult to replace CCFL's in a LCD with LEDs?
i see stuff out there but whats your guy's personal experence with it?

i have one LCD monitor that the CCFL,s went bad in but the rest of its ok, and i am worried at the rate i use my HDTV (as a computer monitor and a TV and to play NES on) i'll burn em out pretty quick.

It would be somewhat difficult given the small space the CCFL resides in, but it could be done at the cost of uneven light across the screen. You would have to run a custom power bus though, as the CCFL is powered by high AC voltage, and the LED is powered by low DC voltage.

It would be much more practical to simply replace the CCFL later on with another matching model. This I have done, piece of cake.

you can but it looks unnatural and the light isnt distributed as well as ccfl.

well the power isnt much of a problem because the CCFL comes through an inverter from DC to AC so i know that much about it.

the link i had is ded and i cant find any thing else, i was going to try this with the monitor first and then when the bite the dust in the TV do it to it then.

I think most panels these days use only one or two CCFLs and a diffusing lens the size of the screen to spread the light. Thats how I've seen it done in the few laptops I've opened (all circa 2005 and later). You might get some success by using a Cree style high output LED from DealExtreme or Kai Domain.

i was planning on using some headlgiht LEDs, they can be had for cheap, and if theyre DOT approved they should have decent output
