Alright. So I built a PC for my old man earlier last. Well, he wanted to still use his old POS 20GB hard drive. Whatever.

Anyways, about a month ago, I finally got him to do a few upgrades. One of which was a new hard drive. That being said, I did a fresh install of WinXP Pro (he was previously using WinXP Home) onto the new hard drive... And ever since I've been having nothing but problems.

The basic gist of it is, it's not detecting a sound card. At all. It's onboard sound, but it worked fine before. Another odd thing is that in the device manager, it's showing an unknown PCI adapter... I'm assuming this has something to do with the audio card. I've tried just about anything I can think of to get this dumb thing working.

I've flashed/updated the BIOS.
I've tried manually installing it, but it just tells me that the device doesn't exist.
I've tried updating the chipset drivers.
I've tried to let WinXP search for the best driver for it. (Go figure, it didn't work)

I'm at a loss as of what to do, and it's really ****ing me off. If anyone has any ideas, I'd be very, very, very grateful.

Here's full specs on it.
AMD 64 3800+ X2 (Stock HSF)
Asus M2N-MX Socket AM2 Mobo
2GB Ultra Dual-Channel PC6400 RAM
250GB Seagate SATA HDD
EVGA nVidia 8600 GTS
Lite-On DVD-ROM (IDE)
Lite-On CD-RW (IDE)

Everything's running at stock.

Thanks in advance,
Jor

Has anyone ever had trouble with the audio on any of the M2N-MX boards? SE, Deluxe, et cetera...

Sounds like it's disabled in the BIOS to me.

That was my first thought, too. But in the BIOS there's two options... Auto and disabled. It's set to auto.
