I have a GPU but from what I was reading about the GPU client I would have to dedicate one core of my CPU to it. So which is better one SMP client or one standard client and a GPU client?
I now have three Stars I am no longer a private in the T32 army!:attn:
One SMP client on Intels and I'm fairly certain on your sig rig. The GPU client doesn't yet work on your sig GPU. Assuming you get about 220 ppd/GHz/Core on the SMP client, you should make about 1400 ppd on the SMP client. We don't know what the 2900 GT will produce but if it will match a X1950 XT, 800 ppd would be about right. The single cpu client will produce about 65 ppd/GHz on non bonus WUs and from 165% to 200% and more (on some WUs), 200 to 500 ppd. So with these numbers if you got nothing but the best bonus WUs on the single core client, you'd get close to SMP production. You can't count on that and I'd estimate your real world production of the single core + GPU clients at about 1100 ppd and with a lot more heat and power usage. When 2900 GT GPU client results are known, things may change.

Ok thanks ChasR you seem to be the man when it comes to folding you must have been doing it for a long time.
I guess you'd say 4 years is a long time, but there are others that have been doing it at least 3 years longer than me. In the begining, the "good" WUs produced less than 1 PPD. Now it's 4000 ppd on the new quads.

I don't get 4000ppd on 2 dual cores! I would love to be able to afford a couple of quad core folding rigs to further feed my addiction.

ChasR does know his stuff thats for sure. Also, I am not sure if it has been fixed, but the GPU client seemed to be pretty buggy for quite some time. I have also heard stories about it killing GPU's, since they aren't really designed to be run at 100% nonstop (atleast as far as I know). Make sure if you were to try folding on that GPU that you have extremely good cooling.
I guess my 6 stars makes me a Gunnery Sergeant. I did spend 5 years in the Marine Corps, but you wouldn't know it by looking at me now.

Yeah I did have tons of probs the last time I tried folding on my gpu but I was using an X195pro agp I didn't know if the PCI-E cards were any different with the folding. I guess I will stick with the SMP until I here some good news about the GPU client.
Using an X1950 Pro AGP to boost the production of a dedicated P4a 1.5, I've found the GPU client to be fairly bulletproof. The cards, however, aren't, as several of us have found out. Dedicated is a key word in GPU client tolerability.
