Hi, yesterday I put together a computer for the first time with some of the parts as follows. (The fact that it works is almost a miracle to me)

abit ip35-pro
bfg tech 8800gts g92 pre-overclocked
2x2gb g.skill ddr2 800
q6600 (not overclocked yet)
zerotherm nirvana
antec 900 case
hx520watt psu

As of now I have only installed the drivers that came with the motherboard and graphics card as well as windows xp. My graphics card's fan makes my room sound like I am inside of an airplane. This makes me think that the fan is running on near top speeds for some reason (unless it really is supposed to be really loud at all times).

How can I lower the speed of the fan when I am not playing games and want things to be more quiet? Any programs and guides to use them would help.

Also, are there any good programs that can help me monitor the temperatures of my graphics card and other things in my case?

Thanks for helping out a noob, I would be lost without these forums.

RivaTuner allows you to adjust the fan speed. Google it up. ;)

yep use rivatuner, i have it so its 50% on the fan up to 45c then it slowly increased to 100% at 57c as temp increases.
