and I don't know if all cookies are bad and if I should get rid of them. There may be good cookies that I want or even need, aren't there, and how does one know the difference? They are all of the "Low" type in Norton Internet Security 2007 rating system and the setting (as configured as such) is to "ignore" as I have done.

What to do?

Deleting a cookie won't really effect anything. Please google cookie to find out more of what it does. Basically... It's used by a website to record what you have done/doing. Like if you already logged in. Deleting them would do no harm to anything...

The worse that will happen if you get rid of them is those sites will not remember you.

I clear my private data including cookies at least once a week.

WELL i WAS WONDERING IF BY TAKING ANY ACTION (NOT SURE WHAT THE OPTIONS ARE) whoops. that if I indeed need them and take action(s) that I'd lose whatever good things are good. Like who I am, etc. The simple things. I don't know if these simple things have other ways to do it, or if generally cookies are a step i nthe wrong direction. Can I experiment at least once and take action. If I do take action all at once at least I will know what the consequences are. Will I always be able to get my milk & honey back?

Should I toss my cookies?

My cookies always get deleted as soon as I close Firefox. There is no harm whatsoever in getting rid of them. The worst that might happen is you have to type a username and password a few times.

If you WANT to... go for it, you won't hurt anything.

Will it help? In short, no.

I do the exact same thing. Also since I love wikipedia and love to link/quote them, linked below is wiki's page regarding HTTP Cookies.

Also, I would specifically look at the "Misconceptions" section.
