I recently created the following system:

Motherboard: Asus P4T-E
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 1.9GHz
Case: Cooler Master ATC-201
Memory: 512MB PC800 ECC RDRAM
Video: Asus V8200 T5 Deluxe
Audio: SoundBlaster Audigy Platinum
HDD: IBM Deskstar 120GXP
CD-R/RW: Yamaha CRW3200
DVD: Creative Labs Encore 12X with Dxr3 Decoder

I have several questions regarding the system.

First, I am curious of the opinions regarding my hardware choices. What would you have done differently and why?

Secondly, and most importantly, I would like to overclock this system. What can be overclocked (ie video card, processor, FSB, etc.)? How would you accomplish this overclocking?

Lastly, and equally important, if I choose to overclock this system I want it to be sufficiently cooled. What should to protected, (ie video card, processor, motherboard chipset, memory, HDD, etc.) and what are your recommendations on protecting these components? Please be specific in regards to products and let me know where I can find them.

Clear, concise, and objective responses would be most appreciated; please send a copy to mithrandir1701e@hotmail.com . I look forward to getting advice from such a good group.

Sincerely,
Brian

PS Happy New Year.

As far as cooling the main thing you will overclock is your cpu, so far the best heatsink for the P4 is the Swiftech MCX478 which can be found at www.sidewindercomputers.com for aroun 70$, a more reasonable choice is the AVC Sunflower which cools very well for around 30$

For the Video card if you are so inclined a 1u Cpu Cooler can be modified for excellent cooling on a video card, a good choice is the Alpha Pal15U

The CPU can be overclocked through the bios by raising the FSB, this will also oc the ram and the video card bus and the PCI cards, the video cards core an memory are overlclocked through the use of programs such as nvmax (www.nvmax.com)

You have made some very good choices, sweet system:)

i was looking at that board but i got my abit one insted (th7ii) which has a nice feature for the pci/agp bus where you can lock them at 33/66 no matter what fsb

The diffrence in temp when overclocking the cpu isnt that great (i found) its about 6*C extra at max load for mine for 300mhz extra speed

you should be able to get the fsb up to 110 with the stock hsf it's fairly big you might notice, im up to 120 fsb with some good airflow in my case and the stock hsf and its working fine
