View Full Version : howdo you run a fan at 17volts?

i know it might mess up the fan ,but how can you run a fan at 17volts using the 5 and 12 volt lines from a power supply.

Best bet is to take the black wire of the fan to the -12V out of the PSU and the red wire to the +5v, check the output of your -12V line against the power consumption of your fan though. Another way is to take the black to -5 and the red to 12V, but usually the current capacity of the -5v line is really minimal. I've got a couple of fans that are specced 10-16V, so if you fancy taking -12 and +3.3 you can maybe keep it in spec.
