I keep getting this error:

[21:13:55] Folding@home Core Shutdown: MISSING_WORK_FILES
when i restart my computer and start FAH again.

Running vista, newest 5.92 beta (happened on 5.91 also).
If i complete the whole WU without closing (using ctrl-c) it works fine, and completes, sends, etc. But if I ctrl-c, and open it again it has this error.

wasted at least 5 WUs today messing with it.

Your core threads (4 of them), are "child processes", and have default communication with the parent thread. When you close and then restart the child, it looks for who to communicate with according to info in your registry, (and frequently elsewhere).

Your registry (or other) entries, are giving the wrong directions on where FAH should look for it's work files.

You'll see this if you start FAH in one directory, and then close it, and move it to another directory and fire it back up, again.

Check your FAH registry entries; if they look good, (that is, no simple fix to be found there), then I would:

1) Close FAH
2) Delete all FAH entries in your registry (with care!!) Back up your registry first, and don't delete anything else for crying out loud!

3) Delete all FAH files - search your entire HD and find every client.cfg or FAH*.* file, and delete.

4) Reboot.

5) Check the registry that all FAH entries are gone: Start >> Run >> Regedit, and use the Edit tab to search for you.

6) Delete the old FAH directory, and all it's sub-directories
7) Re-install a fresh FAH packet into a directory with another name - not the same one it had before. Follow the install directions that come with FAH's files, carefully.

8) And don't even think about moving any FAH files, anywhere. :D

Vista, not sure what is going on, but i'm going to finish this WU and then try and clean and reinstall :P

Still can't figure this out, this is a new windows load, around 5 days old at most. Reinstalled fah a few times now, tried to check registry, everything looks ok.

It's possible you have some serious instability. However, before looking hardware problems, I suggest you you delete your current installation. Reinstall FAH under the user account that will run FAH from the command prompt run as administrator. Disable UAC. When you restart FAH after the reinstall, run it with the -verbosity 9 and -local flags. If it still doesn't work, then look for a hardware problem.
