I just got in a rather large argument regarding my electricity usage (a few kW for my computer room alone...), and I'm now being forced to shut down my systems when I'm not personally at them, therefore, my participation to the team can no longer be made in the form of point production. I'm definitely going to stick around and help best I can with troubleshooting and keeping morality up, but for the time being my production is going to be 0,000 ppd :bang head
I've put a touch under 400k points in to the team since December, and I hope to put a few more in whenever I can. Sorry to stop production so suddenly, but I wish you all the best of luck ;)

That sucks. Are you in a place that covers utilities, or was this a "discussion" with other people in your home? The reason I ask is b/c I am about to move into an apartment that includes utilities in the rent price.

I'm still living with my parents. They aren't terribly pleased with how high the power bill has been in the past few months... Therefore, I've had my folding shut down. I'm going to try and leave my PS3 on as much as I can though, they probably won't notice that :)
I suppose it also doesn't help that you can hear my main rig (the quad core) from pretty much every room in the house except for two or three. (5500sq ft. house... 114cfm Panaflo's are LOUD! :attn:

This man speaketh the truth!
Get a fan controller bro :) Sorry to hear about you having to shut down your rigs though :(

I have one :)
To keep my OC where it is I have to run them at 100% to keep temperatures stable (even then, they're still at 65-68 degrees!) The P182-b with everything I have in it doesn't get rid of heat very well, but it does insulate the sound a lot :)
I've already tried, even downclocking my rigs to stock (I know, WTF is this "Stock" thing?) and making the fans quiet wouldn't allow me to fold. They want the whole rig off :(
Folding is full of up's and down's, David. Don't worry or be upset about it - these things happen.
We still want to see your shining face apple, around here, you know that!

Well, it was approx $10 USD @ month per rig.
Then you OC them, and add a bunch of fans to the mix.....
Do what you can, that is all anyone can ask.
Thank you for the Great Contribution you've already made.
I'm sure we haven't heard the last of you. :p

With all those "eye"s in his posts I just imagine HD is a pirate and then everything reads much more clearly. :D
Sorry to hear that David... come back when you can... we all understand, even though parents sometimes don't. :(

There are no WUs without deadlines. However, running as little as 3 or 4 hours a day, a quad at a good overclock will complete uni cpu WUs before the prefered deadline.
Numbers go up and down...Teamates stay.
That PS3 will keep you plugging along.
We are all lucky our rigs don't run on Gas or we would all have to curtail it.

Sorry to hear that news,I know exactly how you feel, being on a pension the Wife and I have to watch our spending habits with utilities too, and as my server died from a power surge awhile back the folding ceased on that rig, we dont have the money to splash out on newer parts for it, and the old parts had laying around just dont cut it (execpt maybe a lowend DSL install)
Was lucky to Upgrade to My main PC with the insurance payout, otherwise would be still using Old P4 as main rig.

@ David_N
Cheer up, you'll be back to foldin' trim soon enough, and I feel your Pain bro as I've had to cut back also.

Nope, that's $7.98 for the gas and $8.73 for the diesel.
In Southern California, I've paid $4.19 per gallon for diesel at a discount station, and seen it for $4.31 /gallon.
Southern CA is one of the pricier markets for fuels. San Francisco area is even higher - which is odd, because the refineries are right next to San Francisco. Less competition, so they can charge more. Over the years the big oil companies have driven most of the independent station owners, out of business. They were too competitive!

Well, I have both some bad and good news.
First off, my best friends father's cancer has taken a turn for the worse. They say he has two to three weeks left to live and he is on heavy doses of morphine. He's lost almost 100 pounds in the past year (He used to be about 200, a very strong and well built man) and isn't doing too well... I'm helping the family out best I can, but they aren't taking it too well...
The result, and likely only good of this, is that I'll be putting my folding rigs back online. I'm going to be paying a portion of the power bill now, but it's worth it. I currently only have my laptop, which I can't fold on, but my replacement PS3 should be back from Sony shortly, and I have a little plan to net me about 20-25k ppd out of my Mac Pro when I finally order it in the next few weeks, hopefully.
Does it seem fair to believe that two 2.8ghz quads and four 8800GT's will do 20-25k? I'll be doing GPU2 clients and SMP clients for however many I can support...
Anyways, I'll be back online soon, hopefully stronger than ever!

Sorry to hear why, but glad you'll be back folding again.

Here's a little update on what's going on...
First off, my friends father passed away in his home on August 30th, 2008. RIP KHC, you will be in my memories as one of the greatest men I have ever had the opportunity of knowing.
Furthermore, my new PS3 arrived today! I'll be setting folding up on it this afternoon to start getting back in the game a little! :)
Lastly, unfortunately the Mac Pro plans have been scrapped. I've ended up putting a lot of my own money into my company to help get it started, so I'll have to settle for a cheaper system. I'll still be folding on it with an E8400 and a GTX 260 though! I'll likely be running 64bit Vista HP, what will be my optimal setup for this, a GPU client and one SMP, or will that be a little too much for a dual core?
What kinda of PPD are the GTX 260's pumping out?
This system has actually been ordered, unlike the mac pro I've been talking about for ages :P
Thanks guys!

Sorry to hear about your friend's dad, my condolences.

£1.13 and £1.27 in Greenock yesterday, £1.10 and £1.24 in Glasgow.

Euros? We don't use Euros silly :P. They're for Europeans. >.>
(We use Pounds Sterling £1 ~ $2.1 IIRC)
Greenock? Teehee, half my family lives there, and on some of the smaller villages down the Clyde coast there.
Petrol is about 3p cheaper here. Bonus!
Electricity is a problem ATM I guess, especially with the economy hurting. Take care David_N! Somebody buy this poor guy a pint...

See my first sig rig / post #24 :)
My case and ram are on a 2 week backorder... I'm going to order the black one instead of the silver one I guess, and for the ram I'll probably just wait for them to come in stock, it usually only takes 3-5 days and I really like that ram :)
