My Live! 5.1 Platinum card just started to begin crackling in games and occasionally surfing. It only does this in "Fourpoint/5.1 Din" mode.(Cambridge/DTT3500). Don't tell me to use another mode:rolleyes: I haven't installed anything new, just increased PCI Latency from 32 to 64. But that worked without crackling for a few days. I dropped it back to 40 but still crackling.
I rearranged my wires and checked my connections. Any ideas??
Thank you:)

Have a read at www.viahardware.com (FAQs sound issues) you are not alone there is to much going on to write it down here. This site should help you.

I heard via chipset and the sound blaster created that.

Get the lastest via 4 in 1's and the lastest sound blaster live drivers.

Soyo isnt the only one having problems with this. Its the VIA chipset, so it could be any board using it. The latest 4in1's seem to have fixed this for me, maybe you should try them.

This problem just recently started. I've had the Live! since June-ish without any crackling or popping. I read up on the potential conflict with VIA and S.B. in anticipation of problems before I bought the card. The only change I made was increasing the PCI Latency from 32 to 64. This setting was fine for a few days. I since reduced the setting to 40 and still noticed crackling, but not as much. It's now back to 32 and we'll see how it goes.
Last night I read that setting the PCI Latency anywhere from 0-32 would be fine, but anything above that would increase the likelyhood of sound issues with the SB/VIA combo.
Thanks :)

Exile--Which 4-in-1 drivers did you upgrade from and to?

I upgraded from the Windows XP intergrated 4in1's. I played UT last night and all was fine, no more crackling.

check for current drivers at viaarena.com But I think there's a PCI latency patch at Viahardware.com that'll solve the crackling better than just new drivers.

Is the PCI Latency patch available for Win98SE?
Also, is there a newer driver for the SB Live! 5.1 Platinum. I purchased this card in July or August. I checked the Creative site for driver updates, but none were available. My driver is dated 8/25/2000. Is there a newer version...somewhere??
