hi,i just bought one of these beasty things man and im not getting the temps i should be.
ive installed it twice now to make sure its sitting evenly but my temps at default are averaging 45 degrees C in normal use and getting over 50 sometimes just surfing the net for a while(i will point out that its summer here in sydney now and weve been getting temperatures of 30 - 38 degrees C, but still with the old WBK38 i never or rarely got temps higher than 43 degrees under load overclocked from 1.4 -1.57mhz.......i havent a clue man!!!
any help on this will be greatly appreciated......................

Silly question I know, but did you use any thermal paste?
And do you have the fan sucking or blowing, and have you tried reversing it?

yes arctic silver , no i havent tried turning the fan over,it is blowing over the HS from factory.
as we speak im at 44 degrees C ,and all im doing is going through the forum here!

What are you using to get those temp's..if its anything thats on the actual motherboard then its probaly off. Get yourself a temp probe and see what they are. Motherboard probes are always off for me.

for all i know, 13 c over ambient is still pretty good temps. what fan did you get on the heatsink? what kind of case airflow do you have? if you are using a motherboard monitoring program, its wrong most likely.

What type of fan are you using with it? How many CFM is it rated at? Also, for temp monitoring, I drilled a small (4mm) hole in the copper base off in the corner about 10mm deep and stuck a thermocouple for my digidoc in there and bound it with AS thermal epoxy. You could do the same with any probe and use regular glue of some sort as long as the tip of the thermocouple was touching the copper through some thermal paste.

Donny how did you get a Pelt to work with that fan. I have a 80watt plet aswell.

How about the air flow in the case?

Well besides the stuff in my sig I used neoprene, silicone RTV and dielectric grease to make it vapor tight...it not only helps with condensation but also with cooling. I use the 12v line from the case PSU; the reason why I got the EG651P 550 watt. Amazingly enough, even with the CPU on full load and the pelt heat too, the HS only gets warm to the touch. The Swiftech's a monster....totally awesome heat sink.

I was just meaning with the space due to a pelt and I assume you use a cold plate. Did you have to get longer screws or anything.

Oh, yeah you're right. I went from 2" to 2 1/2" bolts. The TEC and cold plate added a lot of thickness.

Ok cool. I wonder if I should go ahead and do it. What kind of temps are you getting?

around 2C idle, 4C full load or something like it....I'm getting a variablePC peltier controller soon though so I can keep it around ambient and not use neoprene, silicone and all that schtuff.

What is a VariablePC Peltier Controller?

It's a box that varies the voltage to a TEC module to throttle it so that it'll keep the cold side at ambient temperature or whatever you set it to. Keeping it at ambient prevents condensation from forming.

ok thanks for the replies,
the fan i got with it is the DELTA 68 cfm so theres more than enough there and i am using an Aopen HX-08 full tower with 120mm 70 cfm fan sucking air in the front and 120mm in the top blowing air out so i think air flow aint a problem at the moment!
could be wrong though but im using round cables too too allow the air to pass through the passage hole to the top section, i guess i better get my mabient temps 1st and let you all know tonight,
about what im using to measure my temps, well nothing speciall but i use VIA hardware monitor and sisoft aswell as check my bios and all seem to be around the same ,but more importantly im comparing these with my temps over the old WBK so the only things in my opinion that can be is the fact that its very hot here hence the ambient temps maybe high and the other that there maybe an imbalance in the torquing of the screws but i doubt it,what do you guys think?
any other ideas?

......THANKS............................sub!

ok my system temps are around the 30 deg mark and mobo temp is 26 deg with cpu @ 44 degrees .
does that seem right??
thanks............................................ :eh?:

I got the swifty on my 1.4 T-bird. I run about 39-40C idle from the in-socket thermistor. But my ambeint temps are only a few degress off, if I recall right, so I don't think it's overly accurate. My PC sits on the concrete floor of an unfinished basement in winter. No way it 35C in that basement.

Unfortunately, I'm at work now, so I can't tell you for sure. But I have plans to get a Digital Doc in the next few weeks, and check my temps with that. If I can find a $10 thermal probe at the 'Shack, I'll check my temps with that.

I got an WBK and MC462 with the delta. The max temp on the WBK 44c the max on the 462 is 41-42. Not too much of a different. You should try to make a duct to pull air straight from outside of the case. I heard that works really good. Haven't try that myself. I am goiing water cool cause I can't stand the noise. I must say if the ambient temp is that high, I wouldn't expect much from any HSF or water cool. Try sticky an a/c next to it.:D

yeah thanks guys, but im definately not impressed with the swifty and think it is highly over rated in regards to its performance.
sure it looks great but it isnt doing much compared to the old wbk so i think water maybe the trick and atleast some work on my case to get the air flow better!

If you have water cooling, use it...no contest between that and ANY air HSF. The swift is awesome for an air HSF but nothing can match h2o.
