Yes I've done it before with clips.

It was along time ago but there are programs. Try searching like .avi to .mpeg or something on downloads.com or google.com your bound to find something.

people do it all the time
download a copy of TMPEnc and follow the tutorial from www.vcdhelp.com
click on the convert section and they provide both the tools and steps that need to be taken

good luck

I find VideoMach (www.download.com) is quite useful, can convert most any format to another format (With the exception of Flash, Quicktime, and RealPlayer). It also lets you pick which codec you want to encode it in.

The 30-day trial I picked up from Download.com about four months ago, still has not expired :D, but it is a full-feature trial that doesn't put labels on anything (Like MADE IN VIDEOMACH), like some other converter programs. Also lets you seperate or join video and audio files.

Just curious, but do you gain anything by going from avi to mpeg?

It would be impossible. By recompressing the video, you just make it worse. Plus, everyone knows that AVI is king ;)

I've done a lot of experimentin with that. For best results you'll have to capture in 640 x 480 in AVI. Which comes out to almost a gig per minute for space. Then You can convert them to Mpegs or Mpeg2 with a variaty of software. Nero has a separate plugin you can purchase that will convert them from AVI's or other formats to Mpeg or Mpeg2 format before it burns them to a disk. Mpeg2 is going to give you the best image quality. The difference is night and day compared to a normal mpeg file. But the key is to capture at full screen as AVI. But remember 20 minutes of video like that will take around 15 or 16 gigs of space!

But it will look great playing back in your DVD player though. The image quality of a Mpeg 2 is supposed to be less then DVD but better then VHS. Which is'nt to bad. But you can only fit about 40 minutes or so on an 80min CDR.

you can PM me for more info or anything else you need :).
