View Full Version : Radiator fan?
Should I have my radiator fan blowing air from the inside of the case to the outside so the inside of the case is cooler or vice versa so I get cooler air going to the radiator but the inside of the case is warmer.

what i suggest you do, you get one fan blowing from inside > over the radiator > to the outside of the case....then on the outside of the case, have another fan sucking air through the radiator....this way you get as much air movement as possible...just make sure you get the same fans, or else it will be all messed up
I went the opposite route. I have my radiator sandwiched between two 120mm fans in a push-pull arrangement. The blowing fan is mounted to the lower front of the case drawing cooler room air in from the outside. The exhausting fan delivers the air to the inside of the case. I have three 80mm fans along with the PSU fan drawing the internal case air out. Those 80mm fans were chosen for quietness and in parallel, theyalmost equal the cfm of the 120mm fan blowing in. Yes, the air exiting the radiator assembly is about 2 degress warmer than the room air being drawn in, but it's still relatively cool and goes through the case so quickly that it really does not contribute adversely to the other components inside the case. If the air was moving more slowly, it would warm up more while traversing the radiator. Here is the mathematical representation. Air being drawn into the case, through the radiator is 86cfm. Three 80MM fans on exhaust at 20cfm each=60cfm. Air exhausting through the PSU = ~20cfm. Total intake= 86cfm minus total exhaust 80cfm = slightly positive pressure. Lets assume the inside of the full tower is ~ 4cubic feet in volume. The air inside is getting replaced every 3 seconds. Using this method and running my CPU at 100 watts under Prime95 torture, it runs at 36C and the motherboard is running at 23C in a room of 20C. Works for me. :D

Air comming in from the outside is the best as it would be cooler then the air inside the case.

my rad is mounted at the top of my case with 2 120mm fans suckin air through it and blowing it out, i achive 4 degrees above ambient with this setup (and it is a poor radiator)
