View Full Version : Realistically, how much power do I need for gaming at 1440x900?

I've got a Q6600@3.4, 8800gt 512, 4GB DDR2 RAM 1:1, and a raid 0 HD.
I still see occasional dips in my frame rate when playing things like COD4 or SupCom at max settings on my 19" 1440x900 monitor. I'd like to level these out for smooth gameplay, and I'm wondering what the best way to go about this is.
I've seen the 8800GT on sale for as low as $199 lately, even lower after MIR. However, I've also seen a couple 8800GTS 512s for 199 or cheaper. Should I go SLI GT? I may have a buyer for my 8800GT, should I sell it and go with an 8800GTS? Maybe even a 9800GTX? Should I just resist the urge and live with the occasional slight dip in frame rates? Maybe live with it untill the 10000 series comes out?
I need some advice on what to do with my money!

i game @ 1680 x 1050 on a 22' wide. my g92 GTS SLi never drops below 91fps in cod4. never.
if you have the motherboard for it, i would go SLi. COD4 scales very well with SLi.

I bought a 9800gx2 and my primary LCD only does 1440x900 and I get 40 Fps on crysis @ very high. Everything else though is 60+ Fps. Id say get a 8800 gts from evga and steup if nvidia randomly releases a better card or if you dont like it step up to a gtx or gx2.

But at 1440*900 My 8800GTS 512 is all ready past 60fps at all times with COD4, no need to go SLI at that low of a resolution. Your system looks to be a replica of mine but with the addition of raid 0 so maybe its the drivers or your not updated to 1.5 maybe? Just hold on to your 8800gt and overclock like mad as any other video card, even mine, will react the same at this resolution.

Bwuh?
I run my GT at 1600x1200 and I can't complain on ANY of my games.
Are you addicted to 100fps or something?

I'm going to have to side with hazaro on this one..
Your 1440x900 has less pixels than 1280x1024, therefore you should be having zero problems with visually noticeable fps drops.

Are you forcing 16xAA or forcing vsync off in the driver?
