So my 9800GX2 arrived today from EVGA step up program.

My antec 550W true power 2.0 does not have 8 pin power adapters for VGA cards. Am i screwed into buying a new power supply? I don't think its a good idea to try and run it with 1 - 6 pin plug and nothing occupying the 8 pin. It has an 8 pin for the MOBO but it i don't think its the same pin out.

Idea's?

You can get adaptors,

I would not run a 9800GX2 on a TPII, they aren't the greatest PSUs in the first place.

I know its not the greatest PSU, its getting a little dated.

However, i've had very solid rails with my q6600 @ 1.5 vcore clocked to 3700mhz with 8800gts overclocked, and 2 hitachi drives in raid 0. I can't complain about this PSU.

Any suggestions on decent priced PSU's? i don't have tons of money, but definitly don't want to cheap out on a PSU

I rather like the Corsair TX series. The TX650 has 2 6+2 pin connectors, and the TX750 has 4 6+2 connectors. Newegg has them for $100 or $135 after rebate. For your use, the TX650 would be just fine. 5 year warranty, too.. I did a lot of looking around before buying mine (which I bought specifically to support a GX2) and the TX was the best value I could find.

Well also due to the fact you will want to make sure the PSU can handle it at load. Your chewing probably very close to 400W on the Quad and the 9800GX2 OC'ed and that is living little room to play with on the rest of your equipment including, MB, HDD's, Opticals, etc.

Its close, not saying it shouldn't run but i'd keep my eye on that your not going to be overly pushing the PSU past its rating.

Close, it was an 8800GTS (G92) that was oc'd, but i absolutely get your point.

I ordered the 750TX (always prefer a little overkill, better to have more power available). I've never had a Corsair PSU so i'm interested to see how it holds up.

Good choice. At load, you are going to be right around 50% of that PSU's capacity so efficiency will be maximized.. Save ya a few bucks on power bills, and it should be up to the task if you decide to go quad-SLI down the road :p

LOL yeah like i'm MADE of money or something! My next mobo will most likely be nvidia chipset (always been die hard intel chipsets) they really look good lately. However, i cannot afford more then one of these cards, i only did it because i had a good chance to trade in the old card.

I bought the GTS for 360 before x-mas. Going rate for them now is around 220-240, so there was no way i was going to pass up the opportunity to recieve full value which i paid for the card.

Heck, i even considered selling this 9800GX2 right away for the full retail value and getting another GTS G92. However, i've realized that this is pretty much the most performance i can recieve off of my single slot intel burden chipset, otherwise i'd do 2 GTS G92's.

I'd be surprised if you could even get $500 for a used GX2. Probably the people who can afford them don't care about the extra $50 it would cost to get a brand new one..
