Ok, I have this card in my laptop and it runs COD4 at 1280x800 at ~60FPS. I haven't overclocked it, nor have i tried running the 8600 drivers on it.
My question: Should I try the 8600 drivers to see if i can turn some of the eye candy back on, or should i go straight to overclocking? (I'm wary of this since it is a laptop)
Other specs:
Intel Core2Duo T9300 @ stock (2.5GHz)
2x2GB RAM (don't remember the speed)
200GB 7200RPM SATA HDD
onboard sound... 1920x1200 native resolution ->15.4" screen
It's a lenovo thinkpad t61p model 6459-cto... basically topped out one and still came in cheaper than the laptop i WAS looking at, since they were on sale. I can list the rest if you need it.
Also, do i need to use the 8600 drivers to o/c with rivatuner? (i'm guessing i can use this software on a laptop.)
TIA
Thats a damn fine laptop right there...
I would not try OC'ing it, unless your feeling lucky - the cooling on Thinkpads is decent for the CPU, but I have heard less than great things about the GPU cooling

This is true, T4x series laptops were notorious for this, buy a desktop to overclock, although I have not seen or heard much about the T6x's
If you OC this and fry something Lenovo will laugh at you if you ask about sending it back for warranty.
I would recommend trying the 8600 drivers as I cant see any bad effects coming from that.

Ouch, no overlocky... that's just as well, i guess. I should be doing schoolwork anyways. Thanks for the compliment... it replaced a real POS so i'm enjoying even being able to pick it up and not having it flex on me. I'll just leave fast enough alone... maybe play with some driver sot see which run the fastest but i won't mess with the freq's
thnx
I have the same note, but i wasn't afraid to overclock :D
700/1400/880 in RivaTuner
I get 6352 points in 3DMark 06 (thats better than 8600M GT in SLI or same as 9700M GT)
Temp on GPU: 65°C max in 3DM06 with Zalman-1000 coolin pad and TP fan set on max.
WE HAVE FU*IN' GOOD NOTE! :bday:

Use the modified 177.92 drivers from LaptopVideo2Go (http://laptopvideo2go.com/), the 177.98 ones don't offer as good of performance.
okey, new info. 725/1500/900
6526 points in 3DM 06, 1280x800, temp 68°C max with zalman and max fan

kojot, mind explaining your cooling? I'm just dense i guess, but I don't understnad how you're using a zalman on your lappy.
thnx

*slaps forehead*
i totally brain-farted on that one... i thought he had some crazy apparatus molded onto one of the vents or some craziness... i need to look at getting one of those... does yours keep your thinkpad cool?
