I had a motorola modem on my last computer until i went cable. My wife has a new computer now and i gave her my Motorola modem. Well come to find out after a year of owning it I was told this model uses CPU resources to run slowing down any other programs running. So what is a better modem? How are USR Winmodems?
PS: now that i think about i always connected at 38kps+ but when i overclocked my connection speed increased also.

The winmodems are the types you want to avoid. They use system resources. You would want to buy a purely hardware modem (ask a store clerck for anything that doesn't use system resources). If you can find a provider that supports V.92 modems, than get V.92 modems (haven't found a provider yet). These modems allow you to accept incoming phone calls without losing your connection and making outgoing phone calls. As for the overclocking thing, I doubt it, as it is the modem that sends and recieves data, not the CPU (maybe the CPU was able to process more data at one time since you had a winmodem).

I'm loving my USR External Modem. I always connect at either 49333 or 50666 :D . If you prefer an internal one, look into a USR hardware modem or any hardware modem at that
