hello everybody, I'm trying to help a buddy of mine select new RAM. I downloaded CPU-z to find out what kind of RAM he has on his computer and it said he has "PC2 4300" is that the same thing as PC 4300? If not, could somebody please translate for me?

Also, is it likely that pc4200 would work with this motherboard as well? Because I couldn't find PC4300 RAM for sale at my usual store.

If you need additional information I can provide that as well. Thanks!

No, they aren't the same. Today there are 3 types of memory: DDR, DDR2 and DDR3. The PC 4300 you noted is DDR. The PC2 4300 is DDR2, the 2 after "PC" indicates this fact. You can not interchange the types of memory, a motherboard requires a particular type and that's it.

Yes, it is likely but not absolute. Depends on the particular memory involved.
