I just thought I would post this. But I found this program very useful, and simple. It is very clean and doesn't use a lot of resources to run, and it's FREE... This is a great program for anyone who want to see their temperatures in the system tray, and also supports HLT command, my idle temp goes doen about 7'c with the idle temp, which isn't a big deal I guess since it's idle, but might make my chip last longer. Anyway you might want to chek it out.

Will not do me any good, because I fold 24/7, and don't want my computer to cripple itself...

Thank you for trying to help out slick306. But you pointed out the problems of these programs in your own post. "It only works at idle"....

Don't work. to the best of my knowledge, the only reason that Cooling !Software! will cool the CPU !Hardware! is because it sends out the command to the CPU to enter a Wait state for one cycle. This means that your CPU actualy drops in speed to lower your temp. that is why it only works at idle. because the CPU ignores the Wait command if it has more pressing matters.

I know that it lowers performance of the system, but it is a good utility for checking fan speds, and temperatures and it's free. Motherboard monitor cost money, this one is free and small.. That's it..

I use it as I frequently am pushing 2.3v and regularly run at 2.2v. I (like you) do not see the purpose in trying to cool the chip by runnining in the low forties while surfing when I can do the surfing in the upper teens.

Why would you care what your idle temperatures are? If your computer is idle, you might as well turn it off! I know you're only trying to be helpful, but a good computer is a busy computer. In my case (actually two cases :D ) my cpus are busy running Genome!

And MBM5 is definitely free!

Don't let your computer be idle! Genome on!

(I'm not allowed to name my team since it isn't this site's team, but it's all for the same good cause!)
