I have an alpha 8045 w/ xp 1600 what's the best way to lap the h/s and unlock the proccessor thanks. any suggestions to my setup listed in sig would be greatly apprieciated.
If you've got a fast connection, try here for unlocking:

As for lapping, hit the search button at the top and use "lapping" for the search term. We often discuss this, and it should be averywhere.
Let me know if you can't find it, I'll be glad to illustrate.

You might want to take a closer look. I ordered a 1.1 T-Bird and installed it later on switched MoBo`s and took a look at it I noticed it was already unlocked.
If you're going to overclock the FSB get rid of the Mushkin. I had it and couldn't even run stable at 138. Get Corsair PC2400 or Crucial PC2100. And as for unlocking just get a mechanical lead pencil and connect the L1 bridges. Looks somthin like this:
[L1 . : : : :] connect like this [L1 . | | | |] wallah!:D
-----------------------------
AMD TBird 1133mhz @ 1420mhz 1.87v 45c full load
Thermaltake Volcano 6u+
Soyo Dragon Plus
256MB Corsair PC2400
Maxtor 45Gig 7200rpm HD
Cendyne DVD 16x40x
TDK veloCD 24x10x40x
ATi Radeon VE(8500 or 7500 comin soon Im still deciding!)
SB PCI512

the pencil trick would work but he's talking about an XP cpu. pencil trick wont work on the new chip. tom's hardware has a really good guide unlocking the XP. like diggrr said, if u've got a fast connection u can download a whole movie showing you how or just read the article.
My bad... I wasnt paying attention thought it was a tbird:beer:

You mean i spent extra money on mushkin ram and it doesn't overclock well... hmm. i can't believe that .. did u have the mushkin with the built on heatsinks?..
Big kid no worries.
Don't just take their word it will overclock no matter what but not knowing what potential. It will be better than generic as far as I know and probably overclock very well with a good motherboard a little luck.
Go for tom's guide for unlocking since I heard it's a good guide.
And for lapping get waterproof sandpaper.
Get:
400
600
800
1000
1500
2000 if you want the smooth and mirror finish.
Take the fan off the heatsink and wet the sandpaper and the hsf every 30secs to prevent deep scratches.
Good Luck man.

thanks for the reply.. Hey I just ordered my Ratpad. I can't wait to get that bad boy on my desk.. Also I am Looking at a new cdburner.. If I have to open my case to lap and unlock I might as well add something new while I am doing it. LOL.. any suggestion.. I have heard Teac and Plextor.. I want something in black..
I never heard of the other brand you mentioned. But I would go with the Plextor 12x since it is Burnproof currently cheap and its average speed and barely differences between 24x or so.

my thoughts are i would rather spend the extra 40 bucks and get the fastest one out there .. stuff becomes outdated soon enough.. U have never heard of Teac?.. hmm.. weird. thanks for the comments

get the new TDK. If I remember right it`s a 32x10x40 or you can get the 24x10x40x. Both are BurnProof. Since you want it in Black itwill be easy to pop the face plate off and piant it black. I did mine to match my case.
