Got an old HP today with a Pentium OverDrive MMX chip in it...top of the chip reads:

PODPMT66X200
W/ MMX Tech
L7313656-0309
SL2FF V2.0

...a friend of mine told me some time ago that this chip couldn't be o/c'ed, cause Intel had already gotten as much out of it as they could with the OverDrive set-up...is this true? What can I feasible do with this chip, just for fun?

P.S. - it's got the little built-in fan on top and everything...I can't believe Intel started out like this...hehe

addendum...

just got back from Intel's archive site...can't find this chip on the site anywhere...apparently they only got up to 166MHz on the overdrive...so why am I holding a 66X200??? Somebody help me wade through all this sh*t, please, I got my new shoes on...

I'd treat it like any other potential OC candidate- firts, see if there is a way to adjust the multiplier. It could work; Intel didn't start locking them until the P2 233. Then, try to adjust the front side bus upwards.

IMHO it's more likely to have to be fiddled with via jumpers- prebuilt machines like that usually have a pretty boring BIOS.

I'm sure you can crank a few more mhz out of it, but probably not too much- Intel already did that with the Overdrive. :D

Try raising your bus speed from 66MHz to 75MHz. The CPU most likely will do 225MHz but you board most likely won't let it.

Works on an Asus P55T2P4.

I'm not gonna use the HP board...got an old TXPro and a few more assorted AT's laying around...I figured I might as well play with it, it won't hurt my feelings if it burns up :D
