View Full Version : Question about ac outlet as lan
Does anyone have one of these and if so, do you reccomend it? I can't run a cat5 from downstairs to up here in my room and I am getting intermittent lag spikes on my wireless connection even though my ping from my pc to my router downstairs is <2ms... It's really frustrating and is the only reason I have stopped playing FPS online...
I was thinking about something like this:

thoughts?

I'd bet that product would work just fine for you. Zyxel makes good quality products. I have no experience with the powerline networking things for consumers but it either works or it doesnt.

IIRC most powerline networking and HA products have issues jumping the breaker box. The signal gets too dirty and/or the resistance in the box nullifies the signal itself.

TBH i have heard that thoes things dont work all that great... they do transmit the net signal good but not ANY where near the speeds stated... your looking at 56k-slowest dsl if the computers arnt on the same feed from tbe breaker box...
There is also the fact that it is possibile to backfeed your net into the grid so someone down your street could plug one in and get net... although it would be very slow they could do some damage..
And not to mention the price of the things... i would MUCH MUCH rather run a simple wifi network than these... it would be more stable faster and cost less.
Or the best way would be to run cat5 :D
