so i bought a asus p5k-e wifi from overclockers a B grade item,

when i got it i spent hours testing it trying to get it to boot it had a major cold boot problem and most times would not post at all. So when i finally did i installed windows and all drivers and updates, after checking the cpuz the pci express link was stuck on 4x not 16x so i tried to up a few volts and frequencies to see if that would fix it but it did not, so after speaking to many of people on other forums i decided to RMA it,

just checked my RMA status at overclockers and its being returned to me because one of the ram clips has broken off so therefore its damaged and voids warranty,

so i rang them up and they are basicly saying tough s--t it was broken, now i build up pc's for friends and family and there is no way it was like that when i sent it.

not sure what i can do but i no i did not do it!

That does stink. I think in a situation like this probably the only thing you can do (in the future) is to mark a part of the board with a UV pen and then take a photo of it under a black light to prove that it's the same board (in case problems arise from that if they're trying to pull a fast one on you), and take detailed photos of the board before you send it in for RMA. That might give you a better case against them, or anyone else for that matter, if a situation such as this arises in the future. As is I'm not sure what you can do, if anything now. It sounds like it's your word against theirs.

This thread may belong in Vendor Discussion.

yeh i no my word against theres,

but that is just not good customer service i build pc's for friends and family members and no exactly what im doing,

you should be able to return a faulty item and a new one returned say like corsair with there products they are absolutley brilliant and replace there items with no questions asked.

04-11-08, 11:44 AM
That sucks, you were already RMA'ing it why didn't they just do it for you?!?!

If the item was faulty to begin with, what difference is a broken RAM clip going to make?

I think they are jerking you around.

OCUK have never been that great, all money in their eyes.

exactly m8

the board already had an issue before it was damaged in transit.

bought my blood iron p35-t2rl from novatech and it arrived next day i have set it up and i am running my E8400 at 4.3ghz stable with no issues what so ever,

wish i had marked the board some how because i bet its not even the one i sent back and they are pulling a fast one on me

guess about all you can do is to boycott them and past the word about them to hurt them

Tbh ocuk aren't exactly known for their customer/rma service, the only thing worth buying from them is memory.

Yeah the guys there are (insert offensive word here)

How did the ram clip break off? couldn't you try saying it was broken when you got it?

antipacker
04-12-08, 05:29 AM
i tried that one but they are having none of it,

but the issue is that the pci width link is stuck at 4x and not 16x and it does not always boot up

so the broken ram clip has nothing to do with the fact that the board has a fault

and i no it was ok when it left my hands,

i might try to send it back to asus and explain what has happended

what do you think?

Firey_chasm
04-12-08, 05:31 AM
definately try Asus. Logitech definately were wonderful when I had a problem with my speakers and amazon wouldnt RMA them, took abit longer than normal but I definately couldnt fault logitech's service.

thanks for the links btw :)

my advice to everyone is stay away from them.

Hmm, I've ordered from OCUK many times and never had a problem. Back when I bought a DFI NF4 Ultra-D they offered a free SLI bridge for people who wanted to mod the board, I didn't get one with mine and when I let them know they sent it out the next day.

antipacker
04-14-08, 04:45 AM
it seems that when RMA comes into it they try there best to put the blame on the customer rather than repairing what is faulty.

even if the clip broke off in the post and they repaired the board and sent it back to me i would not of been bothered about the clip even if say they broke it accidently,

the broken clip has nothing to do with the fact that the board they sent me had issues and would not boot up.

+1 for www.aria.co.uk
helpful and human so far so good

-1 for www.microdirect.co.uk shower of tish

the monkeys they use to test things don't know their r's from their elbow

Dont DFI have a direct to manufaturer RMA service, they did when i had my Ultra-D? Cant you just bypass OcUK?

This is also the reason why ive always bought GSkill, because of the lifetime straight to manufacturer RMA warranty service

ps: you forgot to mention how badly 'www.ebuyer.co.uk' sucks major ass in terms of customer service

UK Sale of Goods Act: When goods are supplied faulty and the fault appears within 6 months the retailer must repair, replace or refund the goods in question unless they can prove beyond reasonable doubt that the fault was not there when the goods were sold.

The broken RAM clip is nothing to do with the cold boot issue or the PCIe issue and so they can still easily test the board for these issues. Damage in transit will be insured against by the courier to some extent.

It's worth fighting them over, don't let ******* companies get away with it. I'd either send them a nicely worded letter saying you are seeking advice from the Citizens Advice Bureau and that you sent the board back in good condition with faults described clearly which do not affect the RAM. Alternatively claim for the damage from the courier.

scan are great for me.

I don't buy from the internet though... I live like very close to their store, they are a nice company.

When I think of more I'll add.

OCUK = crap
Scan = brilliant. Ordered over the web from them before.
Komplett = OK, apart from one mix up where they misread my order and sent me one CPU instead of two :P
Maplin = never used them
Novatech = ditto
Ebuyer = hit and miss. Can be a major PITA but have the best prices. Usually worth the gamble.
Micro Direct = never used them.

PS Going to shift this to Vendor Discussion.

Same reason I buy Crucial. I've only ever had to RMA one stick of the several I've bought from them. I'd changed address, didn't remember when I'd bought it, and had no idea where the reciept was. I posted back the faulty one and got a brand new replacement a couple of days later. Fantastic service.

i sent them a complaint and they said the broken clip voided the warranty,

just sent them another email saying

i will be contacting the cab and that the damage was not made by me and that it has nothing to do with the faults that i had described with the board in question.

antipacker

they just emailed back saying this.

and they have charged me another £10 for the return of the faulty board!!

The board was faulty, however as the motherboard was physically damaged we cannot replace this motherboard as the warranty is voided.

They're an absolute nightmare to work with. They "lost" my CM690 stack for 8 days somehow but after 10+ e-mails and phone calls (no exaggeration) it was found. I have had broken cathodes sent out, orders shipped with missing components that after calling them up they told me they were in there so I spent another hour trying to tell them the CPU wasn't at which point they gave up and sent me out another one. They lost my RAM even though I paid 10quid for it to be shipped next day and had to wait a further 6 because they couldn't find it and then they wouldn't refund the difference.

Sorry for the big rant, but if its one store I hate and avoid at all costs its OCUK. Try using Vadim.co.uk instead. They messed up only once (I have ordered numerous times from them) and were excellent about it. E-mailed them and they replied within 10mins, within 15mins of e-mailing them my GPU was on its way. They cross shipped the items - they sent me a tuner card - and refunded my P&P both ways and sent my an e-mail apologising profusely. Possibly one of the best stores I've worked with. :)

its a total disgrace to be treated like this overclockers promised me next day delivery which they did not do, i had to call them up to see where my order was and they said they had stocking problems with my item!!

well anyways i bought my blood iron from novatech and it arrived next day no problems and is working great.

just wish i went to them first

If you paid with credit card, try disputing the charges with CC/bank, because you never recieved promised goods, also alot of credit cards these days offer extended warranty on products you buy. I would also try sending a letter with what David suggested in his post, but get a family lawyer to sign it if you have one. If nothing else report them to a government agency if you have one for better business practices. If I was a hacker and a good one, I would crash their forums for banning me, I would be so irrate.
