Im a newbie with a build in the works. My friend is doing the build, he has given me the task of doing the research for watercooling my computer.

The following are the specs on my soon to be completed computer build....

Asus Striker II Formula
Q6600 Chip Set
2X 8800 GTS Video Cards
4GB RAM Crucial
1 Tagan ITZ 1100W Power Supply
1 TB WD SATA
1 500GB WD SATA
3X250GB WD SATA w/Cooler Master 6 Fans
1XDVD Burner SATA Plextor
1XDVD Burner IDE Phililps
1X200GB IDE for the operating system
1 Cooler Master Stacker II Case

What Im asking is the following:

1) Which is the best cooling system kit out there?

2) Has anyone had any experience with ThermalTake M1 and M2 Units?

3) Which are the best cooling blocks for the 8800GTS?

4) Which is the best cooling block for the Q6600 Chipset?

5) Which is the best pump/reservoir combination on the market?

Thanks, any information would be helpful.:bang head

:welcome:
The best kits you can get are the swiftech ones. Have a look at some of them to get an idea of good parts.

On a side note why have you opted for that mash of hard drives? 1tb,500gb,3x250gb and a 200 IDE?
If you want speed for games you may as well put the OS on that drive as well which would save you the 200. Im guessing ur gunna raid the 3x 250s?
and btw the Q6600 is a CPU not a chipset. the chipset is the northbridge. :D

AAAARRRRGGGHHHHH, you're like an old person driving a Mercedes.

You need to educate yourself on how to even use a PC like that before owning one, sorry. Nothing personal. Sorry.

Why 2 DVD drives? Why so many HD's?

My advice is to sart a little slower, get your basic components together ( Case, mobo, mem, cpu, HSF,etc...), get everything together, start out with a couple 10kRPM Raptors for a RAID0 Set, if you need more storage later get 1 or 2 more raptors of the same size and make a Raid 5 or 10. Forget IDE HD's, IDE DVD is ok I guess. Everything else is fine, I can't give any opinions on water cooling as i'm just now going to be using it and it's a sealed system so I really won't have to fuss with it at all.

Everything else you're getting is good, it should be a fast system. You might want to go SLi if you're using nvidia.

Two questions for you before I can answer, first off, why do you want to water-cool your system, and second question will you be overclocking or running everything at stock settings? Also you need two drop the ide drives and go soild sata.

And, another idea. Spend a few days (over 8 hours) here and on xtreme forums reading all the case and watercooling stickies and read a lot of threads. You'll learn a ton and know what we mean, what to ask, and maybe figure a lot out on your own. Trust me, it's easier on you and us if you get a bit of WC education first.

It took me a few months of reading all over the place before I was able to decide what to buy and knew all basic tricks to WC. And getting the nerve to spend LOTS of $$ on putting water in my computer.

BTW, you don't need water unless your going to OC, tweak, drain, refill, play etc with the inside of your computer. GOOD air cooling really works well and is much cheaper/easier.

Ohh ThermalTake water stuff is absolute garbage for the money. Any full premade kit is bad, and will cost you more in the long run. QUALITY pre-selected kits of good parts are a nice way to go about a first time WC'er.

You can't go WC and forget about it. Many drain a few times a year, if not every month, every week checking water levels, blowing dust outta the fans, looking for leaks (not too often). If you get any growth in the water, it's hours of taking stuff apart, cleaning, buying new tubing etc. It's rare, but not uncommon, especially with newer WC'ers.

Custom wc or air, like what others had said and will be saying.

If you're bent on wcing, read ocing first and decide if you're ready to spend time building, tweaking, testing, burin-in and finalising. And ocing alone takes quite a long time, let alone putting together your wc and trouble shooting.

Thanks for all the useful information and constructive advice. I didnt take anything personal, I really liked the one about the old man driving a Mercedes Benz though...LOL

Nevertheless I have my work cut out for me, I will take the advice and drop the IDE stuff, I just thought it would be better to keep the OS separate from the programs.

I was looking at the Swiftech 220, I will run air for now and review my temps when I get the machine back from the builder.

Thanks again

always best to have the os on the fastest drive in the system. But yes, I suggest sticking with air for your setup, those heaters in your system you'd need 2 seperate loops with 2 rads.

yea, do a couple days research if anything first. first time i ever tried i just plain out went and just bought what was fitting my specs, but i soon realized its just not as easy as that. after my first attempt, before i tried again, i did alot more research, i joined about 5 diffrent tech forums to get as much info as possible. now i've been using WC since 04 and going threw these forums and getting the very nice input has kept me in the WC game. i was really ready to call it quits after my first attempt went to crap.

Thanks, I guess it's just jealousy. I'm slowly getting my system up there. Your lucky you can do it all at once.

I do see alot of old people with expensive cars, going really slow, I wanna ram 'em!

I dont fit that mold. I buy some cars that go fast, others I build. I also happen to have a Chrysler 300C SRT8 Hemi, 425 HP/420FTLBS Torque does 173 from the factory, only had it up to 140 though. Jersey roads suck! As far as jealousy, Im with you, just do what it takes, I went to college got a good job and good pay. Ive been waiting 2 years for this build. Family and other stuff comes first.
