the title says it all..

i recently went to XP.. and i found out about the whole "there are no true XP drivers for aureal sound cards.." thing.. =\ but the driver that came with XP seemed to work OK.. so i figured what the hell..

well i decided to play UT for the first time since i upgraded to XP and i came to find out that for whatever reason, it will only run in safe mode.. in a window.. with all of the features disabled.. =(

if i try to go full screen, all i get is the unreal splash screen, then blackness.. and no way to get out.

i believe that it is related to my soundcard.. because if i try to run it in safe mode.. and i enable sound of any kind.. it crashes.

what i would like to know is.. has anyone out there had or solved this problem? or am i pretty much screwed unless i drop $100+ that i dont have on a new soundcard..(or go back to win 98)

I've played UT on Audigy for a few months now...but that's the only card I can vouch for cept the LIVE!. Both work well under XP.

Doubt it helps much.....but seems to work fine on my end.

First--make sure you are patched up to ver 4.36 .

Second--start up UT [in safe mode if need be] and pull down: Options, select Preferences, select AUDIO tab. UNselect "Use Hardware 3D Sound" and "Use Surround Sound" checkboxes. I find that both have trouble with A3D drivers and they also drag performance down quite a bit. I own a Diamond Monster Sound card--I like it very much--A3D sounds much better than Creative's solution, IMO. Half-Life RoXoR with this card. Unfortunately Aureal is history, and no UT driver fixes are available that I know of.
