I have just started looking for a new way of backing up our data at work, we have been using a Iomega Jaz drive for the last year or so, but it is starting to get close to filling a disk. What I ideally want to do is start backing up to DVD. I can get quite a cheap DVD Burner, but the backup process that our software has writes straight to a drive letter (which is selectable), and ideally I wish to keep things simple and have it write straight to the DVD rather than having it write to a file and then using nero (or suchlike) to burn a DVD. Does anyone know of any software that can burn to DVD seemlessly just like writing to a floppy/zip/jaz disk? I would really like to use the DVD burner option rather than any other device as it could come in handy for uses other than work.

Thanx in advance.

Easy CD Creator's DirectCD option might be able to do it, but I'm not sure, because I don't use it. Check out http://www.roxio.com and see if your answer is there.

Sounds like just the job, but I can't see anything to say that it supports DVD burning. Found this (http://www.no-panic.com/backup/ndiskcd.html) bit of software that does support DVD burning, but not sure if the DirectCD function will work on DVD's. I have e-Mailed them to find out.

This is the answer I got. Think that it is a yes.

DVD writers are supported by the NovaDisk program as long as you have direct
write access to the device. This means that the drive must be recognized as
a logical drive letter with the ability to format and copy files directly to
the media using the standard Windows GUI interface, i.e. Windows Explorer.

Please visit our Internet site to download the demo version of NovaDisk. The
demo is the same as the full registered version of the software, only
limited by a 30-day evaluation period, with free technical support. You may
also purchase the NovaBackup software directly from our Internet site, where
we are currently offering discounts off the retail price and a FREE copy of
InstantRecovery with purchase.

What do you think?? I don't want to buy a DVD burner then find out I can't do what I want to do with it. The DVD Burner I am looking at is a Panansonic LF-D311.

I bought the Panansonic LF-D311 for backups but not as you are thinking. This drive is a DVD RAM drive as well as a DVD R. You can get double sided Ram disks for under $20 which hold onver 4 gig per side and work just like the Jaz meaning they appear like a disk and are rewritable etc.

I have not burnt a DVD R yet...phil 3D
