View Full Version : Memory benchmarking
I'm testing two brands of PC2100. When I use DOS based cachechk.exe the results are identical. When I use SiSoft Sandra 2001.5.8.11 one brand is reported significantly faster tahn the other.
BIOS settings and CPU remain the same in all tests. I'm overriding the SPD with manual settings.
Any suggestions for another testing method.
Thanks

Sure enough Sandra was right. The Micron PC2100 runs faster than Samsung PC2100. I thought all PC2100 runs the same. I wonder if my BIOS is lying to me and reading the SPD?
Does sandra show the memory timings for your board?
Look in the mainboard section of sandra.
Crucial (RASL-6, RASL-10)
Samsung (RASL-4, RASL-10)
Greek to me.
OT- How did you get retired so quick?
I noticed that I was getting a different Sandra report on my AMD760 (A7M266) than on the SIS 735 (K7S5A) so I moved the memroy to the A7M266.
Both Micron and Samsung are showing:
480MB DDR-SDRAM 6-1-1 R 5-1-1-1 W 2-2-2cl
I'm doing a Sandra memory test now:
Samsung 449/552
Now power down and try the Micron.
That's wierd
Crucial 449/560
With some motherboards sandra will show the memory timings like 2.0-2-2 cl.
Unfortunately sandra does not do this for all boards.
Here is a pic.
Final report for the day:
------------------------------------------------------------
A7M266 Sandra Memory Benchmark @100FSB
Samsung 449 ALU/552 FPU
Crucial 449 ALU/560 FPU
------------------------------------------------------------
K7S5A Sandra Memory Benchmark @100FSB
Samsung 446 ALU/523 FPU
Crucial 476 ALU/594 FPU
------------------------------------------------------------
I'll try the latest K7S5A BIOS tomorrow
Thanks for all your help.
