View Full Version : Need new proc for the P3V4X, Which one?
New to the forum. I have oc'd the 300a back when and most recently the P3V4X with a 550e @770 still solid with stock cooling. Now my needs demand more processing power. What would be the most chip I can put in that motherboad to max it out? I see ther is a p3 1.13 flip chip 100 mhz bus. Would this be a good canidate? What would be the best slocket adapter and fan for this? Thanks
Can I have yur old processor? :p
Hmm the 1.13 P3 is a Tualatin based chip and I don't think it is compliant with your motherboard and if it was there is only one adapter the Powerleap and its not a very good overclocking one either.
The most power you can get is the P3 1.1EB.
The best slotket I would recommend would be in this order:
Abit Slotket !!!
Iwill Slotket 2, MSI Master 6905(Thats wrong, double check that), Asus Smart Slot 370-DL Rev 1.02 <--- All those are like tied in my opinion.
Probably you need some better ram if you intend to hit the EB up to a near 150fsb and you'll need 1/4 dividers if you don't have 1/4 dividers you should go with the P3 1.1E since its 100fsb stock.
As for fan Alpha PEPT66. Its meant for slotket. And other regular HSF will usually come in contact with the motherboard since their bases are wide since their really meant for Socket motherboards.

First of all: Welcome to the forums.
The best slocket would be an Asus S370-DL (IMO, but they seem to be rare).
As far as CPU's go, how much are you willing to spend?
I would probably get a 800E or maybe a 750E, right now I'm running a 600E@888 on my P3V4X with a PEP66 and 62WATT peltier+3/8" cold plate, but my next HSF would probably be a SK6.
Your best bet would be a 1.1GHz CPU (NOT IMO).
BTW: I haven't seen a PIII 1.13GHz/100MHz FSB CPU, where did you see that?

The 1.13 P3 is a Tualatin 0.13 micon processor so it won't work with any slotkets in his board except for maybe a PowerLeap.
Price Watch finds a few places with that 1.13 100mhz for about $135. So I guess this won't work on my board. What about a celey?

Yeah but they all run @ 133MHz FSB, right?

Celeron 850 or 900.
850 is 33% cC0 and 66% cD0.
cD0 is a better overclocking stepping for the CPU.
900 is 100% cD0
And according to the Overclocking Database 850 got an average up to 1184 and 900 got to 1164.
But I'd just get the 900 to be sure of a cD0 stepping and possibly a good overclock.
If you got say 15 more dollars to burn go for the 1gig celeron its a cD0 definte and average overclocked is 1273 so your most likely bound to beat that record with good motherboard, ram and luck and a good cooler!
my p3v4x with asus s370-dl and celeron 1.1gig won't boot up. I don't know what the problem is. I have the latest bios (1006.003) and i tried leaving slockets vcore as default but nothing. i even tried setting it to 1.75 and still nothing. Screen is just black. What could it be?

**EDIT**Welcome to the forums metoo
Did you change the "JP7" jumper on the slocket?
BTW: to make myself clear, I meant the "real" PIII 1.13GHz not the 1.1GHz "fake 1.13GHz" CPU.
Well i have that "fake" :D 1.1 gig celeron and i didnt change jp7. it is at its default. Should i change?
i just changed jp7. from default(coppermine)

a 1.1 100FSB PIII non Tualatin is at pricewatch for 135$ and it SHOULD work with a slocket on your board....
