I have a DSL modem in my house that runs to a 10mbit hub in the uplink port. My ISP gives me 3 IP addresses to use. That worked fine until I got 5 computers. Now two of the computers cant be used on the internet at all which basically makes them useless.
I am running windows XP on 4 of the computers and win 98 on the other. My plan is to allow two of the computers to have their own IP addresses while the other three share the remaining third IP. Is this possible? If so, how can it be done? Thanks a bunch guys.
Make sure to install ICS, Internet Connection Sharing on the main computer. If you have them all hooked into a switch or hub my recommendations would be as follows;
*Put two nic's into the comp you will install and configure ICS on
*When it prompts you to set up a floppy for the other comps say yes or run the internet connection wizard and tell it to auto discover settings
*Run the modem into the comp with two nics, it will act as a gateway (Also what a router does)
*Your computers IP addresses will all come up as the same number because the main computer masks them all so they can't be seen
I hope this helps a bit.

Or if you don't mind run a Windows 2000 Server. You can connect computers to it obviously and run a LAN and run a proxy. The computer with the internet uses 2 ethernet's one to connect to the network one to internet. Install a proxy. And from the other computers you set it in as the proxy.
Or you can get routers.
Although proxy aren't good for gaming and that kind of stuff mainly only the internet browsers and stuff.
