If Monster Cable proceeds with litigation against me I will pursue the same merits-driven approach; I do not compromise with bullies and I would rather spend fifty thousand dollars on defense than give you a dollar of unmerited settlement funds. As for signing a licensing agreement for intellectual property which I have not infringed: that will not happen, under any circumstances, whether it makes economic sense or not. I say this because my observation has been that Monster Cable typically operates in a hit-and-run fashion. Your client threatens litigation, expecting the victim to panic and plead for mercy; and what follows is a quickie negotiation session that ends with payment and a licensing agreement. Your client then uses this collection of licensing agreements to convince others under similar threat to accede to its demands. Let me be clear about this: there are only two ways for you to get anything out of me. You will either need to (1) convince me that I have infringed, or (2) obtain a final judgment to that effect from a court of competent jurisdiction. It may be that my inability to see the pragmatic value of settling frivolous claims is a deep character flaw, and I am sure a few of the insurance carriers for whom I have done work have seen it that way; but it is how I have done business for the last quarter-century and you are not going to change my mind. If you sue me, the case will go to judgment, and I will hold the court's attention upon the merits of your claims--or, to speak more precisely, the absence of merit from your claims--from start to finish. Not only am I unintimidated by litigation; I sometimes rather miss it.

Damn good read. But I am biased...monster cables are joke...I have always laughed at audiophiles (mostly car audio) that spent 20 bucks more on a cable because it said monster.

I hope it goes to court, and I hope Blue Jeans puts up a lot of money to go to court, because Monster has much more money than they do.

Why all the hating on Monster, they obviously make the best audio cables ever, and theyre just trying to defend the minimal profits they make after they buy the resources needed to make the cables. I am interested to see how this turns out though.

I bought a roll of 16ga Monster speaker cable but only because it was on clearance for like $3 at Radioshack and less than the crappy 18ga 'zip cord.' I find this quite entertaining otherwise, waht makes it even funnier is that the head of Bllue Jeans used to be a lawyer.

I love it when companies throw the litigation threat without doing their homework. He insults them without sounding insulting, thats what a good education will get you.

No doubt produced in their orbital manufacturing facility in the vaccuum of space :p

I wonder if we can get a lawsuit going against Monster for their so-called o2-free wire ;)

Yes because O2 is surely a trademark of the BOC the British Oxygen Company.

Oh my god, Monster cable owns the Death Star???

No, Monster cable pwns the death star, the empire could only ever afford Radio Shack ETP cables.

This is awesome beyond awesome. Finally, someone stands up to a company that is comprised of 99% marketing and litigation and 1% product.

Yeah, I have never bought Monster cables, I could get a DVI, HDMI, etc for 1/10th of their price and it cannot be proved as worse than their cable. Go Blue Jeans...

As far as I know there's only one primary HDMI cable manufacturer and they sell to all the secondary brands out there. This means that while your Monster cable that you bought at Best Buy was tested to a higher minimum standard, that Dynex branded HDMI cable was probably cut from the same roll.

This may have been the case a few years back when HDMI was just starting to see mass-market penetration, but it's definitely no longer the case. Besides, it's all digital, with error correction built in on both the sending and receiving ends - the 1's and 0's aren't distorted during transit. :)

Analog cables are a different story, but at least for video, you are right.. http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,121777-page,1/article.html says so, anyway..

Good to know now, but like you say, unless the cable is straight up broke, it doesn't matter.

Most people I sell stuff to are under the impression, however, that computers aren't 'HD' unless you hook them up to an HDTV, and that DVI is inferior compared to HDMI in video quality. So as far as they're concerned, I try to save them a buck and give them a simple comparison.

Granted these are the same people asking for 'linkskis' routers and also ask to "go digital" but really have no clue what they need. Frak you cox and comcast for your stupid commercials.

Good read, but I don't know where that guy gets off copying Monster's work. I picked up brand new Monster cables for my Bose car audio system and I can totally tell a difference in like, the sound quality.

monster? yes ... i have ... for years ... before i knew better ... i even applied for a job w/ monster back in the 80's

bose? personally no ... had several friends w/ em yes ... even had all the design studies and plans for the original 901's

as far as cabling goes id buy cheap wallrack cables before id waste money on monster products and get by till i could obtain better cables/wires

as far as speakers go ... great concept poorly implimented and too many products out there that will rip em apart for the same or less price incl DIY

both overpriced, overmarketed, for slightly better than average performance in their respective classes

My bose system sounds better than anything else I have listened to for computer speakers. Nothing else plays classical music even remotely as good.

As for monster cables, never used em.

To me, bose doesnt necessarily suck, but I put them in the same group as Ipod and Monster Cable, You can do better or pay alot less for the same item. There are some things that make a difference to people, such as bose's tiny cubes. While they may be cute and you can hide them anywhere, there are other products out there that reproduce the sound much better,

Yes, I've had roommates that just swore by Monster cables and their Bose stereos. It sounded all right, but I've always had better sounding systems for far, far less.

Monster and Bose will give you good sound marketed to people that don't want to do any real research and have a lot of money to throw at the project. Bose is maybe a touch better than Monster, since Monster is just completely playing off of ignorance, whereas Bose at least gives you something quasi-decent, just not a lot of value.

So it comes down to whether or not you just want to go spend a huge wad of cash for something mediocre for the money that will sound all right, or if you want to research and really get your money's worth by buying something top notch and superior for the same price. The same can be said about building your own computers, too.

not entirely true ... when monster first came out back in the early mid 80's (i beleive, maybe late 70's) what they were presenting was truly innovative and substansive ... the problem is they have been riding that same technolgical wave ever since and the result is that new things have come that have left them behind. additionally many mfrs producing similar products (stranded wire interconnects and cabling) have adopted similar technology and methodology thus "diluting" monster's "edge"

bose suffers from a similar affliction tho they have done a better job fine tuning their technology and no one else is really attempting to use the same technological concept ... i personally dont care for the results

Seeing as Dynex is made by Monster Cable for Best Buy, they were cut from the same roll. I have nothing for nor against either company, but I hope BJs win if it goes to court.
