Wow, maybe all you ATI guys who constantly whine 'But.. But... we just need better drivers and the cards will beat Nvidia!!' are right :p

Of course, it means nothing without seeing numbers for an Nvidia card pre/post SP1....

Interesting a nice step forward for ATI. But will one game make the difference?

If it truly is a matter of ATI cards performing better with AA under DX10.1 compared to DX10, I can't imagine any games not including support. That will narrow the gap just a bit, until Nvidia goes 10.1 as well, and who knows if their cards will even show the same performance increase if they do add the support.
ATI always releases drivers with outlandish claims like 20% performance increase with x card in y game. I haven't had an ati card in awhile. Do new drivers help them that much?

Well if Nvidia's drivers didn't cause 28.8% of vista crashes (http://tech.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/03/28/0326209)..
I don't remember whining about us beating Nvidia. http://service.futuremark.com/search/3dmark06.action?product=3dmark06.action&doSearch=true&page=first&receiver=%2Fajax%2Fsearchresult3dmark06.action&cpuId=&cpuSpeedFrom=&cpuSpeedTo=&logicalProcessors=-100&physicalProcessors=-100&hyperthreading=-100&gpuId=&gpucorespeedFrom=&gpucorespeedTo=&gpumemoryspeedFrom=&gpumemoryspeedTo=&gpuMemory=-100&shadermodel=-100&cooperativeGpus=-100&graphicsdriver=2&operatingsystem=-100

ATI cards perform better in 3dmark than they do in games. This is a well known fact, Cheator. Don't turn this into another of your ATI vs Nvidia fanboy threads pretty please???

I'm afraid this is what YOU created the thread. Saying that ATI owners "whine" about our cards being better with better drivers isn't the best way to start an unbiased thread.
In future, please find a better choice of words.

It said that nVidia wasn't even going to bother with DX10.1.
Well if Vista SP1 with DX10.1 helps Vista run games 20% faster and only ATI is on board with the enhanced technology, perhaps nVidia will have to reconsider that decision.
Now if ATI had as good of Linux drivers...

No, that is usually NVIDIA, well they are more like "our cards suck now but in 5 months you will get %50 increase in performance once our drivers dont suck"
NVIDIA has always been the "drivers are our saviour" camp, not ati.

I am betting even with the 20% increase ATI cards still will not match Nvidia
performance in higher resolutions with lots of AA etc.
I know my 3870 was basicly brought to its knees at 1920x1200 with 8xaa in many games that my 8800Gt handles just fine.

Hmm I'm not so sure. I specifically remember them promoting improved performance in Doom 3 a few years ago with the x series. And I've had nvidia cards for the past 4 years. I think that I would notice a 20% performance increase in a certain game lol.

ive been angry at both, so at some point or another, they had sucky drivers. looksl ike things are better now tho on both ends, for the most part..

maybe i'll buy that 2nd 3870 after all =)...
People, people! lol How cares!? I mean, ATI rules, FOR NOW! nVidia whom I've been a fanboy until lately mostly due to their wannabe next gen cards with the 9800, can you say GTS overclocked? So until nVidia gets ther proverbial heads outta their asses and make a truly NEXT GEN chip, then I'm sad to call myself an ATI lover ATM. :D

Nvidia does not need a next gen chip they need some better drivers, they already have faster cards than ati. if anyone needs a new chip its ati, ati does not have anything in the range of a gts(g92) or 9800gx2(gamming performance). The 9800gtx is not just a oced gts, it has faster memory, tri sli, and more voltage for higher oc.

This is all good news for ATi fans and VISTA users with there cards but isn't VISTA getting binned for Windows 7 my college lecturer who works for Microsoft/Cisco says it is.
And he's usually right showed us the BETA form of Windows 7 that MS sent him.

i am not saying ati has never done it , but nvidia is well known for doing it far more then ati, just nvidia always blamed bad performance on drivers and promised great performance months later, ati cards tend to perform as they say on release, nvidia not so much

I like vista, I dont see why ms would get rid of a good os.
