all my hardrives are sata apart from one which is ide

my dvd drive is also ide

i have connected the dvd drive up as the slave!

does this matter.

should it be connected as master?

It doesn't matter. If you have two IDE channels then you could put your hard drive and DVD drive as masters on each channel, but if you combine them on one channel you'll be fine doing master/slave arrangement. I really don't think the order matters performance-wise.

the cable will only reach if the dvd is in the slave.

but will this matter performance wise if the dvd is not in the master?
