If you owned this MOBO and you have integrated Sound and Video as well as anOnboard 10/100 controller but you only Have one PCI slot, what would you put in it?
Winner with the best idea gets a Hamburger made by Flounder on his George Forman grill

We don't need no stinking onboard video!!! :D I'd throw in an "old" Voodoo 3000 PCI w/ a few cooling mods, crank it up to 200/200, and go play some games!

Since I am on dialup at home I am thinking put a modem in, get a 15" LCD and use it like a powerful laptop with no battery.
i have a spacewalker with one of these in it and defintely needs a sound card ~~~~~~~ so saving for a digital audio labs carddeluxe soundcard ~~~~~~ then hook it up to my ess eclipse and then into a pair of kef 101s ~~~~~~~ sweetness

An ATA 133 card? or maybe a RAID. Since its got all you need already onboard.
I think a spatula would fit in that slot.
I would then proceed to sling that board as far as the spatula would allow me to. \
I get the burger and I already have a spatula for flippin'!
:D

Raid card.
Maybe even a Voodoo2.

caution: do this at your own risk!
get an extention cord, cut off the female side, exposing the internal wires...
place the ground wire from your extention cord into the veeeeeeery end of the pci slot (the side closest to the middle of the board).
take a shower, and dont dry off...
grab the positive wire in your LEFT hand, and insert your little finger (right hand) into the end of the pci slot (close to the ground wire) and attempt to touch the ground with your little finger.
have a friend or relative plug in the extention cord.
learn your lesson and never buy such a skimply mobo again, as it is impossible to oc, even when upping the voltage as we just tried.

either a modem if you can't use high speed, or a second nic.
The second nic would allow this to be a firewall....since it's pretty much useless for anything else. =)
Thats hidious!
I'd put a NIC for high speed cable or some T1 access for this FORUMS!
Modem if you can't have it.

As long as we are building a performance machine here i think the biggest baddest adaptec raid card.
but since i just read that idea is taken, hmm
How about a slot cooler and totally waste the PCI slot :)

i'd have to disagree! I think this mobo has minimal uses, but one good use! A CARPUTER! woo hoo! click on the www below to see wha i'm talkin bout!

how about a riser card? I have one here, you can put 3 things then. better video, sound, what evers.

ARRRRGH, that is nasty.
HMMMMM, well probably a TV tuner card. Looks like that mobo can handle that...
Real simple. Lay the mobo down flat on it's back. Insert an AOL CD into the slot. Proceed to pulverize both CD and mobo with pellet gun. Perhaps allow roommates to join in. Then go buy a mobo that doesn't suck.
Well, if you were REALLY into music and sound...one of these..

probably the legal way...
buy the cd, rip the mp3, and dont sign on to the net and share it with everyone.
Since I see this as a portable machine, put in baby case I would add a video card so that it is at least usable for a lan party. The card would be a PCi All In Wonder so that you have video capture and a tunner to boot. Add a CD writter/DVD drive and you have one sweet little system! I know cause I made one of these myself....but mine has 3 slots for AIW, 802.11b, SB Live 5.1 :)

I think some people missed the point of why Shuttle made this.
The mobo, aluminum case and 150W PSU costs $250. This is perfect for businesses. It has plenty of power to run office apps, has a footprint smaller than anything else available and is cheaper than most systems of the same ability that have more slots.
As Ed would say this thing was made for Joe Suit. It was not made for us. Mr. Suit is going to order thousands of these things and love them. Joe Sixpack is going to think they are cuter than the Imac and will not clutter his desk in the den.
I will bet my paycheck that Dell is developing one very similar. I also predict that someone will have one that mounts to the bottom of a desk, making it totally out of the way for some users.
Those who are calling it "awful" and "hideous" have no clue about the business world.

I agree with William. Waste the slot with a slot cooler.

And fit 2 delta 38's inside the case to make noise. So you can brag that it's an overclocked sys, even if it isn't.

I use an external dialup modem that connects to the serial port.
Don't need a PCI slot. In fact, with the ECS board I have now, I have 5 PCI slots that are ALL empty!!

5th reply from the top, a modem
I actually started the reply before there were any other posts, but was interupted and did not submit until much later. It happens when you surf at work.

1/4 stick of dynamite.
That's another choice...

Give him the prize, double nic firewall is the best idea I've heard, plus it's his birthday.

Now its up to Flounder to pick the winner as it's his George Forman grill that has only been used four times.
I got Skip to contribute a package of Burger King mustard and a packet of pepper to the winner of this contest.
flounder43
01-03-02, 07:45 PM
Ok here is my decision...
The finalists were:
Kingslayer, for "1/4 stick of dynamite"
William, for "a slot cooler and totally waste the PCI slot" (like it isn't a waste already...)
Wa11y, for "Insert an AOL CD into the slot and pulverize.
But the winner is:
Ridenow, for his valiant defense of a motherboard with but ONE PCI slot!
In his words, "Mr. Suit is going to order thousands of these things and love them. Joe Sixpack is going to think they are cuter than the Imac and will not clutter his desk in the den." Well put! I agree, however disparingly so!
Congratulations Ridenow!
I live in Minneapolis, MN. Let me know when you will be in town to collect your healthy hamburger grilled on a genuine George Foreman Lean Mean Fat Reducing Grilling Machine!
There's got to be a McDs or BKing that is closer!!!:D  :D

Mom just asked me what I was laughing so hard at....It took me a while to explain.
I am honored (sort of).
My favorite is William's, it was not redundant. Shadow's idea is also good, it had purpose.
Some credit must go to Ed. I just said what I think he would have said.
If there is any skiing near Minneapolis I might come to collect;)
Thank you (I think).:p
RideNow I want 1/4 of that buger!
Hmmm grilled bugers (-:

Late entry.
Get AGP video card.
Get hammer.
Align AGP card over PCI slot.
Grip hammer firmly.
Take careful aim.
Pound that sucker into the wrong slot.
