I am using Win200pro sp2 and I was loosing my sound and needing to reboot to recover it. Well the new det 4 drivers 23.11 gave me a big boost in 3dmark and I decided to add the new via 4in1 drivers (4.36) and the blooming irq routing set a total of 9 devices to irq 9 and my sound is now non functional. Is there a way to gain control of the device settings? My hardware is all recognising and bloody dx8/8.1 thinks the sound is working. I am pulling my few hairs out over this microsloth blunder of irq routing being totally automated and sharing mulitudes of devices on one interrupt requester. I cant seem to revert to prior 4in1 drivers and get windoze to shift the routing to another irq. any thoughts, specially helpful ones are appricated.

Thelema,
Harli

I've got 4 devices on irq 11 including my video card... my 3dmark score dropped 1200 points when I installed the 4th device! The manual IRQ settings are locked! 2 IRQ's are unused right now! Sound like the same problem to you?

Some1 posted elswhere to: go to device manager and ACPI-->update driver (choose standard pc). This disables ACPI and should spread out IRQ distribution. It'll probably require some OS things to be re-installed.

I hope anyway... I'm going to try it tonight when get off work.

Other options seem to be:

Try to reserve the shared IRQ in your bios and see if that forces the devices to spread out.

Or, Disable ACPI in bios and clean install OS.

I've started a couple of posts about this problem and these fixes and I'm hoping to get some insightful comments back.

I had heard about the disabling of the advance power management and then reinstalling win2kpro though our other business partner is running w2kadvanced server and said he had full irq control, though win2kpro did offer myself 200+ com port addresses. I did have the "9" devices on irq 11 before any power management got installed, though I might not have disabled all of it ( bios forces a choice between POS1 and sumptin else, everything else had option to disable). I just dumped win2k for 98se it was my top pick from all windows versions ( win 3.11 is still the best network os for security, reliability, and speed reasons imho unless you are a game hound as I am) though I only heard sound once in my mx300 so far in 98se I Will to revive it, prolly physical level drivers conflicting with windoze inf. I will likely get repremanded for mentioning in this post that my current woes are promise fasttrac "lite" 100 drivers sucking rocks in their 1.03 release for the promise 20265 chipset on my ga-7zxr-c rev.3. I am concerned that I might have to haxor the 1.06 release of the raid/ide ata100 inf to include a reference to my actual controler and hope it picks up, but self is scared as I have never hacked drivers, cest la vie cest la gar, cest la amour (such is life, " " war, " " love)
