3DMark Vantage will use four Presets (RESOLUTION) as follows.

Entry - 128MB DX10 Video Card and a monitor capable of displaying 1280x1024 resolution

Performance - 256MB DX10 Video Card and a monitor capable of displaying 1280x1024 resolution

High - 512MB DX10 Video Card and a monitor capable of displaying 1680x1050 resolution

Extreme - 512MB DX10 Video Card and a monitor capable of displaying 1920x1200 resolution

* Basic ($6.95)
* Advanced ($19.95)
* Professional ($495)

The Professional version is intended for business and commercial use, while Basic and Advanced are limited to private use. A Free Trial key allows you to test the benchmark with a single run.

Full details on the differences between the available versions will be available at launch, but to give a rough idea, Basic (6.95$) version allows you to benchmark as many times as you like with the "Performance" preset, and you get a score with all the ORB features available. Advanced ($19.95) unlocks all four presets, six additional feature tests and allows you to customize all the settings.

Nope, only Vista .. I was hoping to be the first to get a full set of results and that up but my download was corrupted :( I'm getting it again but this time its going to take ages (dam download speeds) ..

EDIT: Now downloading it from FileFront .. Getting a much better speed, I think the FutureMark servers are almost at breaking point .. My results should be 20-30mins away ..

EDIT EDIT: .. Done and done .. my first run through on the 'Performance' preset @ 1280x1024 .. I'm not really all that impressed, there's nothing spectacular about it really .. + I'm using the Advanced version and I still have to use the bloody Orb thing .. Anyways, here's my first run score:

The 2nd graphical test looks a lil better at max but still none of it really jumps out at your .. I can't get onto Orb at all now so compare links for this run and my previous run might have to wait .. Anyone know how I can take screens of this running, I tried with SnagIt but just got a load of pics of my desktop ..

This always happens with 3dmark. It's not meant to run well on current hardware. It's supposd to be really sluggish and retarded so that you go and buy the latest and greatest. ;) ;) ;) :burn:

Yep, haven't gamed on my computer in at least a year or more, I have a 360 for that. But if I could bench my 360 for points you can bet your ass it would be doing a lot more of that than gaming too :beer:

Worst benchmarking tool ever....

This has to be the most disappointing 3dmark release ever. The results are completely meaningless...the software is a lag fest of ridiculous proportions...the graphics are 2000ish at best...theres already a post from someone thats over 5 times faster then my machine when my rig rips through everything I throw at it, with ease with the possible exception of Crysis, like everyone else on the planet....indeed I think Crysis is a better benchmark tool than Vantage....and worst of all is the 1 run limit without paying...lol...please get serious futuremark...you'd have to pay me to run this junk another time....utterly useless.

Surely could get more once I can get Riva Tuner to OC my current vid drivers (got the latest). So running just a measly stock clock on the GPU (650/1620/950) but a 4.05Ghz on the CPU. From what I've seen hoping to crack 5k on GPU and hopefully 5.6-5.8k on the 3DMark Score.

Nah I agree with dragon .. Even on the extreme preset (that's with absolutely everything turned up to the max) it doesn't look good .. The 2nd Graphics test looks just a little bit better then that X3 game which came out a while back ..

Vantage might be the new thing but I don't its going to take the place of 3D06, we might see these scores in reviews and stuff and the kings of OCing will start the world records but if I wanna see how my latest tweek or OC helped then I'll run 3D06, not Vantage .. What a waste of $20

I like it. While it might not be the most graphically intensive it sure strains EVERYTHING in the system. Well CPU/GPU and even PPU. Which is a nice site seeing that hopefully people will start taking physics processing more seriously and we'll see more of it on GPU's or CPU's or which ever.

Graphical looks wise yes its "OK" The space seen definatly reminds me of X3, updated engine of course with better effects but still. The explosions on the planet was intresting that it took ZERO hit in FPS when it happened.

That first scene with the gal, bond style type thing. Was OK, not too bad but definatly the characters, except her with the obvious boob shot was definatly lacking polygons.

I think this ones relying on not only the GPU and CPU portion but quiet a bit on the physics aspect of the system. Which it is starting to become more and more in today's games and surely will be more in tomorrows games.

So with that said I think the bench does a good job testing the system from a gaming perspective maybe not fully now, but what it will become of coruse in the coming months/year.

I like the benchmark. IT strains the system, it isn't meant to look perfect or cool yet. 3dmark06 looked like garbage to me when it first came out, and still does.



Also, don't we have textures set at the lowest setting for scores? Why don't you try turning your textures back on high quality and not having any kind of AI enabled for the test so you can see what it looks like.


Lots of bashing for something that is supposed to bench your system, which it did a good job of. 3dmark06 scores are heavily inflated by CPU scores, at least this time your score isn't influenced as exponentially anymore.

I disagree completely, futuremark themselves states this is a gaming benchmark, not a system benchmark, even though they try to add system tests with the physics parts. My OC'd GTS and my OC'd CPU do not put me 5x behind the top scoring rig on the futuremark website. Twice as slow I could credit...maybe even 2.5x slower but 5 times to me just indicates another benchmark with zero real world usefulness when trying to make accurate rankings of machines vs machine. The scaling of score does not match, even slightly, the scaling of real world performance increase in real games.

Also I get the thought that the test might be geared toward physics but seriously when future mark posts this as a description, "3DMark® Vantage is the new industry standard PC gaming performance benchmark from Futuremark, newly designed for Windows Vista and DirectX10. It includes two new graphics tests, two new CPU tests, several new feature tests, and support for the latest hardware. 3DMark® Vantage is based on a completely new rendering engine, developed specifically to take full advantage of DirectX10, the new graphics API from Microsoft." They lack all semblance of credibility when their "gaming" benchmark looks like a 4 or 5 year old title. If the graphics made me go, "ohh ahhh wow", then I would buy the line that this is a gaming benchmark...in it's current form I think benching Crysis and comparing scores with your buddy will give better indication of your machines real world capabilities...

I'd have to agree with the gfx being underpar, on the first test least... The first run I did I "forgot" to setup the NV control panel settings for benching runs. So "Quality" textures, trilnear mipmaps, TR AA, all optimizations off and such were on/set.

The first performance run I did i thought the gfx looked decent but when the characters started showing up, with their 3DM03ish textures, I was like WTF???

The space test didn't look bad, I'd venture to say as gear progresses it will look better.

The CPU tests...well...theyre tests I guess. I never really bought into the idea of Futuremark seperating the CPU/GPU scores over a full system score (like 3DM01), but that's an old debate.

This was the first 3dMark program I payed for. I never needed more than the trial version before but thought wth, it's only $20...

Just ran it for the first time, I gotta say it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Still it's obviously not DX10 worthy. I have no idea what the score was without a connection but it mostly hovered around 15 FPS on a 4GHz 45nm quad + 2900 CF.

Yeah if you don't have a monitor to support the resolution then you can't run the actual test.

OK but on an old CRT of mine running CF all the tests on 3DMark06 went to a black screen unless I had the drivers installed, might be worth a shot.

Yep, it doesn't support that resolution, in the Nvidia CP I can set it to the higher resolution but the monitor just goes black and a wee box comes up with something like "monitor doesn't support this resolution"

I still want to give Maxi idea a go though, just haven't had time yet.

Just got done running it for my "trial" and I already uninstalled it. That has to be the worst one they have made to date. I have no idea why I was averaging less than 17 fps the entire time. Those graphics were HORRIBLE for what speed it was running. You won't see me doing this one, sorry.

I agree with Thideras. I especially hate how they made different configurations, it was fine when all the values were standardized and we could compare off that. Now people are constantly going to mix up the performance, extreme, and whatever other stupid configs they have.

Got to agree with you Thideras... tremendous disappointment in graphics quality. Also, no demo to run with sound. It just feels incomplete.

I like it, whether or not the graphics are bad it gives a way better indicator on performance of graphics cards and gaming than 06 ever did. 06 was so bloated by CPU scores it disgusted me just running it.

Now we can have different CPU setups and see which cards perform better when compared at different quality settings instead of just a large benchmark on who can have the highest CPU and GPU glock.


High-end cards on 06 were all dependent on CPU for their score, now look at vantage scores of high-end cards (9800GTX, 4850's, GX2's, etc) and the difference is much more clear. Though this is still a synthetic benchmark and each game will run independently of each other, at least Futuremark is a lot less biased towards the underlying hardware now.




We also have higher standardized testing. This means instead of somebody just being like, "check 0ut my ub3r high res 32xAA score on 3dmark06 to show how great my 3-SLI is", we can run H and X tests and decide how it scales a lot better than each tester running a different set of parameters.

As you can see its not heavily relying on the CPU anymore, which is nice seeing I want to know my GPU performance not my CPU's per say unless the GPU is limited by the CPU. Only took a few months for me but finally did it. Had to get some results before my 2x HD4850's came in.

wanted to make sure my gear was working correctly cause I just rebuilt all my hardrives..started last night on the reformats and reinstalls..this is on my 74GB raptor split in two pieces one for XP stuff and the other for Vista stuff. CPU is on air right now, QX9650 @ 3730MH. GPUs are air cooled with stock coolers, 2x 3870X2 CF volt modded by Toddm27, cat 8.7, Rivatunered the fans to 70%, clocks set at 950/1055 via AMDGPUClockTool reported by GPUz as 945/1053.

Thanks... yes I just checked your compare URL and the graphics tests are approx 10FPS faster with the 4850CF... compared to the 9800GX2, and costs a lot less well....!!!

I just wish that AMD Phenom could clock higher, to improve CPU performance as well....!!!

I'm waiting to see if a 790FX/SB750 mobo will help the 9850BE clock a bit higher, I'd like to get 3.2Ghz...

I've managed to run 3dmk06 at 3.0Ghz, but it wasn't stable and BSOD's on Vantage, so had to downclock to 2.9Ghz to run Vantage.....

I just installed it and ran it... didn't reboot or shut things down in the backround as I didn't really take this run seriously. My system was only overclocked to 3ghz too when I can push it much further. My 2 3870x2's aren't even overclocked yet.

i cannot get vantage to run on vista 64 what so ever. i just paid for vantage advanced and it locks up in test one during loading shaders. this happens at stock or oc. i dl the latest version with the hotfix already applied. tried reinstalling the hot fix over it. im lost. im having similar problems with aquamark although i chalk that up to being 64. im running the latest catalyst drivers on a 3870 x2. the rest of my rig is in the sig. someone please help!
