Well i was on here a while back asking for some advice. Seems i had thought it was something werid that was causing the problem cause the problem went away. Now its back again and seems to be with a vengence.

I got a visiontek 3850 256mb verison (i believe its the regular one it's all red cooler with ati sticker.)

I updated the bios or whatever cause of the "fan problem" i believe it was. Card started out working great. Now i get black screens again. Once it happens seems like it takes 3 restarts to get the machine back.

When it happens the machine freezes up for about 30 seconds, then i gte the like multicolor lines on certain parts of the picture just small parts tho.

Could this be the video card is just dieing? Cause i had these problems before the bios upgrade. I've ran test after test with memtest, and stress test with prime. I tried to run mark but it wouldn't even run.

Should i call the company? Send the card in?

Send the card in. Sounds like a bum card. Can you run Fur at all?

Nah no oc done to it. I also have a "crappy case" for cooling. Antec sonata 3 thing is horrible for air movement. So i was also thinking maybe thats causing it to warm up. But not sure when im in game it happens mostly.

I thought about selling it but if the card is defective i don't want to dump it on someone else.

I always thought might be because i have a nforce 560 board. That maybe the card don't play nice.

This is aggervating tho i'm going to see about sending it to them today. borrow my friends 7400 geforce for the time being lol.

i think imma try sending mine back...its doing it on vista and win xp...i thought about selling it but like u said i dont wanna burden anyone else either...it could be my psu i dunno...i've reverted bak the the original bios and so far it hasnt done it to me yet...but i've only been on it for one day...the screen goes black and then i hear a load continous beep noise and i get these multicolor littel rectangles on the bottom half of the screen..i only have to reboot once though....this usually happens when gaming...but i've had it do it 3 times on my desktop...im kinda lost at what it could be...psu, memory, or video card..i have the crucial tracers 6400 memory which are known to go bad...so i dunno

Yeah i actually went searching around the web. On ati's forum and some of the vendor's forums theres ton of people complaining about these cards.

You know it's sad i will say i've been a ati/amd fanboy since the early xp processor days. This has changed my tune big time.

I'll be heading back to geforce. All my buddies at work have everything from a 7900GT to a 9600GT and none of them ever have problems. I always have tons of problems.

So i think i'll stick with my processor. But i'll be ditching the video card and picking up a 9600GT i think.

i never had a problem with my visiontek 3850...i o/ced the hell out of it...i could do 790/1060...np's wat so ever...but since i got this sapphire 3870 it was working k at the beginning...now with it o/ced i get the black screens...even a small o/c...but so far at stock i havent had a problem...i dunno...i was thinkin bout nvidia but there mobo's for sli have so much trouble o/cing cpu's, its such a big hit and miss...i like being able to go crossfire if i want to...but if nvidia's mobos were better i'd def go 8800gt...and another thing...in a month the 4800 series is coming out so b4 i ditch this card i want to see how the 4800's perform...
