View Full Version : PIII 1ghz EB @ 1.13 question
I was just messing around with o/c'ing my p3 gig and I got it to 1.13 (150x7.5) and was just wondering about the temps...
idle it's ~90.5F/32.5C and under load it jumps up to ~100ishF/40ishC 106F is as hot as its got. Does this sound pretty acceptable? I was also wondering if I should keep and eye out for anything else that might be happening while I o/c. I'm familiar with overclocking and have done it a few times before on my old bx board with Celerons, but not with my new Asus TUV4X and P3s. I'm a little nervous with that pci bus speed being at 37.5mhz instead of 33. Should I be or am I being dumb? TIA

i wouldnt worry about the temps or the PCI bus......normally PCI isnt a problem until you hit 40 unless you have a weird mobo *cough cough TUSL2-C*....

I run the same thing on a CUSL2. Your temps are very good. I've never seen 37.5 to cause any issue. If anything, your ram @ 150 FSB has to be decent quality. Download and run prime95 torture test. If there is any issue, it will show up.
well it seems to do ok... the only thing i worry about now is the ram... it's 133@150... i guess if something was going to screw up with it, it would have done so by now... LOL

Mine ran fine @ 150 2-2-2 until I tested with Prime95. It would error after 4 loops or so. I went to 150 3-2-2 and now its solid.
The P3 1000EB i've got here (decomissioned at the moment!) runs at 21 degrees idle and about 37-38 degrees C under load with a 21-22 degree ambient temp @ 1.13 ghz at 1.75 volts RAM at CAS 2,3,2,7/9 totally stable using the standard 1ghz Intel cooler....
Chips just seem to run cool on this mobo...Have no idea why....
I just got done running that prime95 for a while... thats a really good stress program... it got my cpu up to 56C/138F i believe that well above the safety range isn't it?
I just ran prime95 at default speed and it still got up to 50C... guess it's time to find a better cooler....
What cooler are you using? You sure it's mounted flat?
Also....
What voltage are you using because those temps are very high....

My p3 1GHz CPUs run fine at 150FSB with stock fan. Do not worry so much man.
So did mine....But my temps were much lower than that!

your temps should be much lower. When overclocking high temps can become some-what tempermental at 171FSB at 35C my system will lock up. On my stepping the CPU can fry at 60-70C and with a 10C error buffer i would be worried if my temps were like yours.
Well I just got a new cooler... It's a bit bigger and has a faster fan. I also cleaned off the die and put some new thermal goop on the die. It's runner much better, but still not as cool as some of your rigs. Right now my room is about 73-75F. SiSoft says the temp is at 29.5C/85.1F (idle). When I let it run through prime95 it maxed at about 108F/41C. That's quite a bit better and I think i'm safe at these temps. If I had some better thermal paste instead of this crappy radioshack stuff I bet it would do even better.
btw... i had an old intel cooling fan that came with a celery 700 tiny tiny thing it was.... i have some big athlon cooler now....
