As the title says what can a 450w PSU power up for a low maybe to midrange pc for example what would it power up in my rig below I'll then compare it to todays CPU's.

I am thinking maybe take the DVD-ROM I can't see 450 powering all of my rig anyways my brother wants a low powered PC but mid ranged. I said 400-450 should be ok just got to get the power usage right from each part whats the lowest CPU dosn't matter from who INTEL or AMD.

A solid 450 should be able to handle your rig.

AF,

The easiest way to estimate is to break down each of your hardware components by wattage. Your CPU is 110w like mine (I think) and your vid card is about 80-90w, both not overclocked. There is no way the rest of your components tax a good 450 w power supply, not even close. Even if you overclock your CPU and vid card, you may add another 50-60 watts to them. I'll bet my rig below overclocked doesn't draw more than 250-275 watts and that's a 110w CPU at default speed.

Overclocked, you might be 300 - 325 watts. The key here is using a quality power supply.

Wow and your is powerful than mine I really thought that PC's take a lot more than the numbers shown I am looking for a better power supply now that you've said mine would be able to power off a 450w. I a looking at this Dark Power one it's modular too so I can remove the cables I dont need http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=801618

Thanks guys really appricate it

If I stress test my rig, Prime95 (all 4 cores) AND (3DMark06 x 10 runs) it uses no more than 320 watts.
Under normal use, it is much less

See sig for system config

My assist rig is powered by a 430w seasonic and it does everything a rig has to do :)
edit: It used to run fine the same setup with a HD2900XT gpu
