Either I just fried my xp1700 or my main board went south. I had unlocked it before with defogger stuff but could only get the whole numbers to work for the multiplier i.e. if it was set to 10.5x it worked at 10x. I had also tried soldiering the L1 bridges closed but that did not work however it left soldier on the L1 bridge posts so then I thought I could possibly use trace tap to close the L1's and this is where I had the problem... I put on the tape as in the instructions, then I put on ASII and the heat sink no POST. Took tape off and still no POST. Might be time to go to Frys(hmmmm make that compusa I have returned to many things to Frys.) and get a Duron for testing

w/ that much done to your XP, I'd say you cooked it. Shoulda taken the simple way, filled the pits w/ superglue, then draw the bridges closed w/ defogger paint.

Make sure you clear the cmos if you left the bios set to a dedicated multiplier or set the jumper(s) to auto if you have jumpers.

Yes I tried clearing cmos. I think it is dead. It is my first dead cpu. I had to mess one up at some point.

I have cleaned off the post before I put on the trace tape they just had little bit of soldier left on them from when I tried soldiering them closed awhile back.
