No matter what I do, it won't show any video. The video doesn't even flicker, and the light never goes to green from orange. A total of two times the monitor has turned on green to say that no signal was being received.

It's a normal looking HD3850, mobo is a Supermicro X7DWA-N that has a PCI-E 16x Gen2 slot. PSU is a PCP&C Kilowatt. I am using an old LCD for testing, it has a VGA input. I am using a DVI to VGA adapter, I've tried two different ones just in case.

After it wouldn't work I deliberately didn't plug the PCI-E power in, and the VCard gave off some beeping, so it is thinking somewhat. The card also gets quite warm.

I put a GeForce 6600 into the same slot, and everything books up perfectly, even with the DVI to VGA adapter. I even put the 3850 in another board, a Gigabyte DS3, and I couldn't get it to show any video there either.

I bought this used from someone I've traded with before, he's reputable and there is no reason why it shouldn't work.

The only thing I can think of is that the DVI ports have advanced and aren't compatible, even with my adapters, but I doubt that. I am thinking the card is dead, but I just wanted to see if you guys thought I was overlooking something major.

Thanks,

John
