Hey guys/gals,
It's about the time that I need to pickup a new wireless router. I was wondering if anyone had some suggestions on which ones to get? I'm not looking to spend an arm and a leg on one.
I had a D-Link in mind here (http://www.wintroniccomputers.com/wintronics/viewProduct.jspa?product=bf73088c16d8331b0116dad3e 9c20005)
I don't need a wireless N router or anything like that.. or do I?
Any suggestions/advice is appreciated!

WHR-HP-G54.
You would have to do quite a lot of searching as it is not sold in US temporary, but it allegedly provides the best darn signal. I am going to get it as soon as my current one dies.
I was doing some research on routers recently. (http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1595|)
Or, failing that, another vote for WRT-54GL.
Wrt54gl with dd wrt firmware will do.

Says it's the linux version, I'm assuming that's what the L stands for?
Thanks again guys.

Yes that's correct
Sorry to bother you again, how exactly do I get the DD-WRT onto it? I'm having trouble finding the firmware on the website.
EDIT: Nvm, I think I got it.

One question I do have.. I read that I have to flash with the mini version of DD-WRT first and then the standard for the WRT54GL? Can anyone confirm this?

The one that you flash with mini are wrt54g and gs. Wrt54gl has 4mb flah memory so, you can go straight to standard. Also wrt54gl doesn't require any special procedure like g and gs depending on revision.

So I can just download the firmware, upload it and presto?

I could swear that I flashed it straight to standard version. I don't really remember mini. I have wrt54gl v1.1 CL7C. The 1.0 version needs mini and 1.1 might not. Though it probably would not hurt flashing with mini first.
Anyways for flashing I went with this guide.

For future reference, it was kind of hinted in here. The wrt54g now supports the dd-wrt mini firmware. Have it on mine and it works beatifully. Go for wrt54gl if you can afford the extra but the wrt54g works well too. Also BEWARE: the wrt54g you will require windows XP to flash the dd-wrt mini firmware on it. Vista has the required tools removed or something. Laptop saved me for that.
If you are talking about tftp Vista has it, its just not installed by default like it is with XP. You can go to add/remove windows components and install it.

Nice to know for next time. That was what I was talking about. Didnt feel like researching it as my XP laptop was sitting next to me and handy anyway.

Yea, the place where I go will beat any advertised price in Canada. So I'm picking up the wrt54gl for $54 CAD. :)
