Hello all.....Im new to the forum and I nedda little help.

I have upgrade my processor for the 1st time and im having some functionality problems. I currently am running a AMD Athlon 1.2 Ghz processor and I have a Gidda-Byte GA-7ZX MotherBoard with the KT133 Chipset (MB Rev.1) 320 meg ram. My problem is that I cant get the PC to go any faster than 1050 Mhz. I read somewere to try and change the FSB speed from 100 to 133 but when i try that I boot to a blank black screen. Any help would be great!!!

You sir, are not alone. Unfortunately, I don't have any answers for you.

I too am plagued with a GA-7ZX. Stable board, but crap for overclocking. I currently run a Duron 800, becuase when I install a 1.4 T-bird, I only get 1050, same as you. I think I've had the FSB up to 120Mhz, but it wasn't stable. And that's with two sticks of Crucial PC-133 in the system, and an Antec 300W power supply. And when I jump it straight up to 133, I also get a blank screen. I can usually get about 108MHz FSB stable.

Actually, while typing this reply, I found the answer. Thank god for multitasking!

Go to http://www.giga-byte.com/products/products.htm, and look for your particular board, under Socket A, VIA chips. There are two entries for the GA-7ZX: Basic and Revision 5. I have the basic. It has a bright red "READ FIRST!" note there. When you click on that, it takes you to this. (http://www.giga-byte.com/faq/faq_7zxfsb.htm) Very plainly, it states that the KT133 chipset will only support a 100MHz FSB. The only one that will support 100/133MHz FSB is the KT133A chipset. So looks like we're both buggered. But at least it's good to know why. Once again, the VIA non-"A" chipsets suck. Drat.

// Edit... Looks like i have a 1400ghz 266/512/F/O Athlon

I also have two 1.4GHz T-Birds just sitting around. Need to pay off some debts before I can buy more hardware. I have an Epox 8KHA+ waiting for some DDR and some other parts to become a full rig. I've heard much good about the 8KHA+. I'm also looking into getting a Soyo Dragon+ (I'm all about the KT266A chipset!). Another good board I've hear about is the AK31. But these are all DDR boards. So you'd also need to upgrade your memory. I've not done much looking into SDR boards currently.

As for replacing the fan, I use a Globalwin FOP38 HSF, that originally came with a black label delta screamer at 60MM. I replaced it with a Sunon 80MM. It's very quiet, and I'm getting the same temps. Just strech the retention clip for the 60mm fan to fit the 80mm fan. It's a bit of a task, and took me about 10 minutes to do. But with a little patience and perseverence, you too can have a rather quiet and cool computer. The sunon fan was only about $5 and had the 3-pin mobo connector, so the RPMs could still be monitored.
