View Full Version : 3dMark Vantage
Is this a typical score, it seems kinda low. I know my system isn't a powerhouse of quad core goodness stuffed with 2 9800GX2's or anything, but is this a common thing for Vantage. This is the first time i've used it or heard anything about it.

I just wanted to see if it was similar to 3dMark06. I guess when I get my other 8800GT, Corsair 650w psu and 4 gigs of good mem soon, i'll re-do it and see what's up.

Thanks for fixing it! :D
so you get an idea.. this is from the system on my sig..

Would be cool if we started a thread and it listed all your rig specs and what scores you pulled in each setting. Then it will be easier to see what kind of score is 'good'.
Is there an official vantage thread in the benchmarking section yet?

There's one in the General GPU section.. http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=557714
The Interface looks nice and shiny, but it just displays results, it is kinda big, and doesn't show rig info

Someone should take a screen shot of the graphic's test for us XP users to see!

Or you could watch a video of the tests. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYX1FNgVCNA) :santa2:

Honestly, it's pretty ugly even compared to 3d06. I was way disappointed.
The spaceship graphics test is pretty good imo (well, the rendering on the ships themselves that is), but ya, the first test is not at all what i thought a graphics test should be.

Honestly, this seems a lot like 3dmark05 to me, the next year the came out with 06 which was almost just a revamp to pretty it up a bit. I think it's just their first run, which they will go over in the next year or two to improve and make the real DX10 benchmark.

Mine, see rig in my sig for your comparison.

It seems that I need to get me a quad core. Been thinking about it for awhile now actually.

Helps in 3DMark, but not as much in games (3DMark's CPU test does in fact mutlithread completely). A good C2D would help though. Also, judging from the agia requirement, my guess is a PhyX card would actually help the score a good bit. Their program is written, as far as I can tell, to take advantage of their card far more than a multi-core proc.

P.S. I just finished "There Will be Blood" crazy damn movie....

I think the inclusion of PhyX is all for the next gen nVidia cards (GTX 260/280) seeing as no one has an actual PhyX card because there awful .. lol

Oh ya, I liked it alot actually. It is kinda dry in some spots, but the ending to me is the best... "I DRANK YOUR MILKSHAKE BOY, I DRANK IT UP!!!!!!" He is a really good actor thats why he got the Best Actor Oscar for that role.
OT: How much faster are the C2D than the AMD dual cores? I know thats a real big question, but I got mine to 3.25ghz and was wondering how much faster is the Intel duals at the same clocks? And why lol?

I'm really not too sure clock for clock, but I'm pretty sure C2D overclock a lot better than AMDs do.

I ran the trial edition and got 10967
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb233/badbonji/VantageTrialeditionscore.jpg
Is this good?
@bonji, that is real good score. From what I have gathered, vantage really likes the quads. This is good to know because it would be nice to have games that take advantage of the 4 cores because I have read that a high clocked dual is (or does do) alot better than the quads.

Very nice indeed .. Beats my score with a 9800GX2 (at stock) .. I wonder if RAM amount/speed/timings have any bearing on scores too ..

Yeah I forgot to run RivaTuner beforehand to OC my GPU's so they were running at stock speeds for that test... Darn I hate the way you can only run it once, I wonder how much of an improvement I would have gained with my GPU's OCed :S

New score with OC on gfx cards :
http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb233/badbonji/3dmarkVantage.jpg
So it went up 600 just by adding small OC (I have the EVGA SSC so they were already overclocked by a fair bit)

What do you get with your GPU overclock? I am surprised to why my score is higher than yours, we have the same HD, similar GPU's and processors. I thought DDR3 would beat my DDR2 as it is only running at 900Mhz 5-5-5-15 2T at the moment...
Right now DDR3 is still in its infancy so-to-speak. There are slight performance gains with DDR3 but not much over good DDR2 and nice timings. Once it matures though, WATCH OUT man. Its gonna be crazy lol.

Hmm... I won't upgrade to DDR3 until Sli is supported on Nehalem board :P as CF IMO is not that great...

CF is actually pretty good. It's just that the current crop of ATI cards aren't that powerful.
SLI might never be supported on Nehalem. Have a read (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=565083).
I can't wait to see what the new cards can do!

That is why i said UNTIL, I already knew they weren't going to let Nvidia have a Nehalem chipset, but my guess is that some sort of deal with be made where a chipset that supports Nehalem + Sli or something eventually.

Fair enough. I personally think nVidia might have to close their Intel chipset division, and give Intel an SLI license so they can sell more gfx cards. So, I guess we're on the same page!
