Hi, thanks for checking the topic! I'm currently in the process of purchasing a new (and my first) laptop. I have read some threads on here and various review sites online and am pretty set on getting an Asus model. I like the 2 year warranty/1 year accidental warranty they have set up.

In the past few years I have become rusty on my computer spec knowledge after putting a desktop together, so I remember some important things, but other specs seem foreign to me. My price range is around $900-1100, but might spend a little more if something is worth it. It will be used mainly for school related work(office and such) and just dicking around on the internet/downloading and playing movies/music, but I still game periodically when I'm bored and would like it to be able to run WoW, warcraft 3, and a few newer titles that may come out.

On newegg I found these two Asus' that caught my eye.

So what I am wondering is if these are too much for what I need, if you think one is better than the other, or if there is another make/model/brand combination that will suit what I have described. Thanks!

I'd go with the second guy, the graphics card isn't quite as powerful but the processor has more cache, is 45nm, and faster.

Is this for a main machine?

If not, I would go for the F8 series. It looks to have a better vid card, is lighter and not as bulky due to having a smaller screen.

If you plan to use this as a main computer then go with the M51..

Yah this will be my main machine as this desktop is dated and been acting up. The screen size on the M51 was a plus for me, but when it says 15.4'' screen size, that is the viewable size right?

Yes it is 15.4" viewable.

+1 for the M51 model.

take the size into consideration. If you're looking for mobility, my 15.4 just barely fits into a standard size laptop. Personally I would get a 14 if you're not planning to use it as you main machine. If you are, go with the M51.
