OK. Athlon XP 1800+, cooled by a quad 220W block, with quad 220W chiller, and freezerful of ice with radiator in to act as another chiller, all fed off the main water supply.

Finally, at 3.2V, it hit 15*200.

YES, 3 Gigahertz. Calculated by me as 4022+. Goodbye, Northwood.

Off an 1800+.

Didn't have long to admire the POST screen.
Black screen 3 secs into POST.
Dive for plug.
Too late.

DAMN!! Blackened patch by the core told me all I needed to know. The waterblock clips had slipped and weren't tight enough.

Say goodbye to an XP 1800+. AND i didn't have screenshots or anything. or even a POST screen pic, so nobody will believe me. .  Please do

I might. But you do realize it's hard to read posts which have such looooong sigs at the end of them? Maybe if you shortened your's it'd be easier to try to understand what you were saying in the actual post.

How did you pump 3.2 volts through it?

Customised voltage regulators. And yes, I HAVE shortened my sig!

Hey, I just got an idea.

With this awesomely powerful machine...would you consider joining the FOLDING@HOME team?

Just go to http://forums.overclockers.ws/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=55686 to find out more.

Thanx! :)

sorry to burst your bubble, but don't think you did anything great..

and you shame the northwood because why?

you got a Athlon Xp to 3Ghz for 3 secs in the initial post...

come on, thats a waste of time and money

IMHO, no skill was needed for that attempt

if it actually happened

don't take this as a insult to you...

but i'm tired of people bashing AMD or INtel with no good reason...

this was not a good reason

How about a picture of this rig?

I'd love to see all these gizzmos you talk about. Custom voltage regulator and freezer setup please.

and a pic of the burnt core would be nice.

How you doing these days Atomic ?

And all this wasted for 3 seconds of joy?

Hope it was good for you.

I though pumping more than 2.3V in to the Vcore will kill the CPU inmediately! You CPU survived for 3 sec. That's some record...

Sorry to hear your loss.

btw, how on earth can you get that much voltage in to the cpu???

Sorry, that much cooling (623W from ice covered radiator, 8 220W TECs = 2.383 KW) WILL offset the heat produced, it was a case of slippped waterblock clip. If the block HAD stayed on the CPU, and it survived the voltage(that was expected), it would have put the Northwood to shame, a 3GHZ athlon, compared to the release 2.2GHZ northwood. The instant voltage kill only happens at roughly 4.7 Volts, when the voltage arcs across the tracks on the core. Below this, heat kills the chip.

eh?
